Why do you need to understand any of that? Now, none of it is wrong - but it's not something anyone signing up at a Mastodon instance absolute must know about to use the system and have a good troll-free social network experience.

On the contrary. Maybe those are exactly the things needed to avoid becoming Xitter. Bluesky is rapidly becoming another instance of the hellhole at this very moment.

What do you need to understand about the technical concepts? Join an instance (mastodon.social if you have no reason to select another one), post and follow.

Bluesky isn't decentralized - and might never get there.

setting up a Relay requires around 4.5 TB of disk space, and that it’s growing by around 18 GB a day

Until there is another instance it's not federated.

The only race on the calendar I truly don't care if I miss.

We're seeing a substantial increase on the Mastodon instance I help moderate too, but there's no aggregate marketing department at Mastodon so we don't get any headlines.

You want Matrix. Synapse if you intend to host for others, Conduit if you just want to host for yourself. There are quite a few different clients but I do indeed use ElementX on mobile.

I think this would be a good time for you to study the subject you intend to discuss.

In February 2015, Russia and Ukraine signed the Minsk II agreements

Beginning in 2021, there was a massive Russian military buildup near Ukraine's borders, including within neighbouring Belarus. Russian officials repeatedly denied plans to attack Ukraine.

So if Russia and Ukraine instead sign a peace deal with borders similar to where they are now, and Russia doesn't invade the rest of europe and Georgia, will you do any introspection?

In 2014 Russia invaded Crimea and the easternmost part of Ukraine. Then said the had absolutely no intention of expanding.

Cue 2022.

At which point did you do your introspection?

This is surely more about packaging of apps on top of something that exists rather than creating something new. A huge bonus would however be a way to pay open source developers working on the tools deemed necessary to include in such a distribution.

At least four cars had switched to full wets at the time.

I don't get the Safety Car for "teams are on the wrong tires". Some had already switched to full wets. Surely this should be up to the teams to screw up instead of relying on the organizers to save them staying out on inters.

Swedish author and famous pro-Ukraine blogger Lars Wilderäng (Cornucopia) reports today that the Swedish security expert Karl Emil Nikka has revealed that Kagi is using the Kremlin propaganda tool Yandex as a backend for searches.

Wilderäng speculates this might mean search terms are leaking to Russia, while others worry about how Kremlin thus can get their talking points into western search results.

Security expert Karl Emil Nikka tells us that the search engine Kagi, popular among tech geeks, uses Russian Yandex, which was introduced after the full-scale invasion. This, of course, gives Russia the opportunity to look at what is searched for via Kagi.
