Does anybody know anybody at shareisland.org (an Italian/international private tracker) and could forward the message in the title to their web dev(s)? I would really like to apply but something goes wrong in the html of the registration/application page. The web console shows some errors but not sure what to make of them. I couldn't find any contact so I tried here just in case. Thanks!

I wonder how upload is allocated between peers in a private tracker. I noticed that I systematically upload much less than most of the other seeding peers (according to the stats available for a given torrent in the private tracker), even if I am among the first to get a torrent. I also noticed that my max upload speed is much less (e.g. 2MB/s) than what I get with speedtest (e.g. 7MB/s), and it often oscillates between low and high values. I was wondering, is there anything I can do to provide a larger share of upload bandwidth? Does the choice of a torrent client matter? Should I change any specific config? How can I diagnose any bottlenecks from my side? Or is it something completely outside my control? Thanks!

Thanks to this Lemmy I entered the magic world of private trackers, and now the list of torrents I keep seeding is growing by the day. How can I detect when the number of torrents is detrimental to the functioning of the network? What is a reasonable ball park estimate of active (even if "dormant") torrents?

jackett (by the way thanks to those suggesting it here!) lists hundreds of indexers... but how to choose which ones to focus on? Is there an updated repository with some stats and indexing by category, popularity and easiness of access, or forums with reviews? Some basic google searches provide SEO optimized pages listing some of the most popular ones but was wondering whether there was some "insider" "awesome-torrent" repo with this kind of info, thanks!

Now you can find the same 4K video from few GBs to a hundred GBs, and I am wondering: where to stop? With music there is a similar phenomenon by which after a certain bitrate it becomes an esoteric art to detect improvements. So, what is your "very good enough" bitrate for 4K videos?

First, is the marketplace at torrentinvites.org legit? Second, is it dishonorable to do such things? Third, how to avoid scams? Fourth, are there alternative marketplaces to have a sense of whether the price is right?

UPDATE I wanted to thank all for the feedback, you made me change my mind and saved my ass from some costly frustrations... good thing I asked here first!

I'm considering joining my first private tracker. It turns out that most of them need you to pass an interview connected through your home IP. I understand this is a reasonable way to filter scammers and duplicate accounts. Still, to those who did it, how do you feel knowing your main IP is stored and associated to your torrenting history?
