That's because UNIX is a trademark and OS vendors will have to pay fees to opengroup.org in order to call their OS Unix.

Fedora also by default includes only free stuff. AFAIK Ubuntu includes non free codecs for media and other software that doesn't fit in FOSS category (it's also one of t the reasons why Ububtu became so popular in my opinion, it just works works out of the box)

It's more likely that ad networks are showing you ads based on the other person being in vicinity and having things in common. I don't think voice snooping is the main cause here

I've donated in the past to elementaryOS, other Linux projects and separately to Wikipedia.

I've tried contributing code, but it's miniscule. I wish I could give more time.

If the advertisers start paying less, then Google will just increase the number of ads shown to the user. And playing content on more tabs won't even matter to them.

The issue is that they are a monopoly so they control and they can do whatever they want. The alternative is federated video services but those aren't matured yet.
