Honestly, I'm quite hopeful for his version of Bond. His films are phenomenal, his adaptations have hit the nail as close-to-centre as imaginably possible. He has had great reverence for the character since a child.
I think he will do right by what is expected from the genre while pushing Bond into fresh territory and away from the potential misogynist traps (not to say that Daniel Craig's films were especially bad at this).
AND he'll obviously have a hand in the new casting which should be fascinating.
Having said that, I'm weary of Bond beyond Villeneuve mostly because of Amazon. They don't give a shit about legacy, only ROI. Villeneuve, now, has the clout to demand total creative control but think about the subsequent movies.. think about the eventual spin-offs.. I shudder.
