I think a part of the "giving up to reddit mods" is the hopes that it will incentivise the reddit mods to push their subreddit to the community instead of trying to keep people on reddit just to maintain power.

Personally I have made several communities that I enjoyed in reddit. While I dont mind modding it's kind of a pain in the ass as well though.

For those interested in trying to keep track of the discord username rollout this is the best tool I have seen for it.

Discord mobile new layout (pathofex.com)
 

Activate the new Discord user interface for Discord Mobile:

1. Send the Sparkles emoji to any server.
2. Once sent, tap on the Sparkles emoji to activate the description box of the emoji.
3. In that box, tap and hold on the Sparkles emoji image until the new layout option appears.

To turn it off if you don't like it:

1. Tap on your profile on the bottom right.
2. On the top left, tap on the gear to open App Settings.
3. Tap on Appearance.
4. Turn off the toggle for "Show New Layout".

I have experience modding subreddits and discord servers as small as 10 people and as large as 20k+ people.
