To be fair, I think about this five times before breakfast:

Humans develop AI to perform economic functions, eventually there is an "AI rights" movement and a separate AI nation is founded. It gets into an economic war with humanity, which turns hot. Humans strike first with nuclear weapons, but the AI nation builds dedicated bio- and robo-weapons and wipes out most of humanity, apart from those who are bred in pods like farm animals and plugged into a simulation for eternity without their consent.

When you make your alarmist arguments dishonestly, how can I freak out about the end of the world?

Let me translate one point:

People are already talking about an AI rights movement in major national papers

A PhD student got an opinion piece published on the hill dot com.

Update - probably a false alarm:

The type3 team has confirmed that the code they're serving matches the code they think they should be serving, so likely a false alarm.>

I think that, if you assume the consequent, my slippery slope argument is valid.

Thanks. I sent a note with their help bot and they never replied. Just one of those weird things; normally I use the archive link but wanted to see all the cross-dialogue in the comments on the recent drama.

Haven't we all written a blog post with an "Acknowledgments" section at the end?

Those photos at them working all over the world in exotic locations, including the FTX condos in the Bahamas... ... and still referring to themselves as "charity workers."

I just tried it again. it's my Orbi wi-fi thing, every time I follow a link to LW - "Orbit has blocked a malware attempt."

hahahahahahahahahahaha

I clicked the original LW link (not the archive link) and got a malware warning.

Because that would be the first thing I thought of, "AGI." Like, my kid is really depressed; if we only had developed a robot who could think.

"the evolution of web3 gaming"

Extinction is a kind of evolution in its final form.
