But this picture of an empty desktop was far too long in the making. it took me a week to succesfully install Arch. I could do the process start to finish, blindfolded, at this point.

Finally, after endless hours of repeating the same steps over and over again, trying to word google searches in just the right way to get just that one specific answer to that one absurd issue, re-reading guides and links over and over again trying to find the single missed Sentence that ties everything together and finally. Finally.

It may seem kinda stupid to consider that an accomplishment, but I feel quite genuinely proud of myself for actually succeeding at this instead of just throwing in the towel and giving up like I usually do when I try and take on new hobbies, and don't immediately succeed.

ETA: Image fix!

I met several autistic folk over my life and each and every one of them suggested I might be autistic. Then my nephew got diagnosed with autism. Then my mom started thinking back on all the social and emotional issues that were brushed off by medical people when I was a child. Then I got an in depth psychological evaluation, and surprise surprise! Autism. Explained a lot...

My grandmother was just diagnosed with 2 seperate cancerous tumors in her abdomen, after one of them tried to kill her, and almost did. I agree, fuck cancer.

Every once in a while I'm reminded of this shit and I just... I just don't understand. Why

Well, I'm autistic, and I've used blender a lot...

I have never rolled a joint this flawless. Quite proud of it... dunno if I even want to smoke it, it turned out so good.

Well, a lot of people who don't have good reading comprehension tend to be neurodivergent people, especially autistic folk like myself. I tend to approach things with a benefit of the doubt attitude but I'm more or less "high functioning" and some people have an even harder time understanding social cues via text. I use /s just out of mindfullness of folk who struggle with those kinds of thing.

Why does he look so.... lopsided?

average president charged with 2 felonies statistic actually incorrect. average president does not get charged with many felonies. felonies donald, who has been charged with a shitload of felonies, is an outlier and should not have been counted

Domestic cats are actually a very social species, I read a couple studies on it, despite what the stereotypes make you believe. They're just very aloof and picky with who they choose to bond with. I've had cats who desperately needed other cats, and I've had cats who really don't like other cats, but those cats are extremely clingy with people instead.

It's also why feral cats are found in colonies and most vets and shelters will recommend having at least 2 cats because they actually need the companionship. It's pretty interesting!

I mean, this is kinda just an internet problem in general, but it's just a prevalent here on Lemmy as anywhere else, so it does count as something annoying Lemmy users doing. And that's just general aggression

It seems like saying anything is a great way to get someone downright furious with you. Again, that happens everywhere, I just wish there was less of it on Lemmy. I think FOSS topics are a great example. Just in this thread alone you can see people already getting just... really worked up on both sides of the FOSS subject.

People get really aggressive about what qualifies as a good meme, ffs. And there also just a general culture online (it's died down recently, I think? It was really bad starting in 2016, imo) of humorous aggression, where reacting in really aggressive ways just as a joke is really common, which leads to misunderstandings and causes people to get actually mad if they aren't in the loop of the joke in the first place.

On a bright note however, I have noticed there's a lot less bigotry being treated as acceptable on here. Transphobic memes and stuff of that nature would show up in random communities on reddit a lot more than should ever be acceptable, and they would occasionally (not always) get more support in the comments than they should. Here on Lemmy it seems folks are a lot more proactive in shutting that stuff down before those types get a foothold here. Hopefully it stays that way.

Linux is interesting to me, but I've never dipped my toes into it because it seems really intimidating (and a lot of loud people act pretty snobbish about it towards non-Linux users, making it seem even more intimidating to get into; I'd rather not be bullied for my choices in software or my ignorance in others).

It seems so complicated to me, and there's so many types, and so much lingo that I'm not versed in, so that when I consider getting into it I just feel so overwhelmed I can't even think.

My understanding of Linux is bare bones to say the least. I understand it's highly customizable. I understand it's a lot of manual work, though, at least.. it sounds like it? From what I've seen people say, it seems like you need to remember a lot of codes and functions to do basic things unless you install interfaces for things? Again, I'm really ignorant about this stuff, so excuse my lack of proper terminolgy and such.

I also am under the impression that Linux isn't the greatest for most games? Or at least, that's what I heard a lot years ago, I don't know if it's still true (or if it was even true back then). If that's still a thing, is it because Windows is just what everyone defaults to when designing software? How viable is gaming on Linux?

And how does one even... go about setting up Linux? How do you choose what er... version? Type? Ah, distro? Again this... terminology is foreign to me, I'm not fully sure what I'm saying. Would I have to whipe a laptop of Windows to install Linux on it? How would I do that?

I am fascinated by the concept of Linux but like I said, there's just so much. I have ADHD and Autism and combined, the whole idea of jumping into this is so goddamn overwhelming to consider figuring it out all by myself.

Sorry if this is out of place, by the way.

ETA: Thanks for all the help so far everyone. I'm gonna start playing with various distros using an older laptop of mine. I bought it real cheap and used a few years ago and it has mainly just been used as my own personal tv that only plays Whose Line Is It Anyways? with Drew Carry every moment of every day, virtually nonstop... and the poor thing can do that on Linux just fine, too.

ETA2: After backing up the Whose Line episodes off the laptop, I tested out Ubuntu using virtual box on my regular laptop but it didn't entice me much, so I searched for something else and found "Live Window Maker", a uh, fork(? is that the right term?) of Debian and installed it onto the laptop. So far, successful! I havent explored it much since I finished my backup last night and installed the distro before I left for work, but I'm excited to start playing with it. I really enjoy the classic windows interface styling of this one, so I'm looking forward to playing with it.

How do you choose to play the game? Do you enjoy questing, or prefer seeing the world and messing around? Do you consider yourself a roleplayer, or are you more "serious" about the game? How vanilla do you like your game? Fresh as a new download, a little bit of QoL, or total overhaul? Cheese or no cheese?

For hypothetical example; Father/son duo are criminals, harming, killing, and stealing innocent civilians. Superhero fights them, resulting in the father dying. Son is now portrayed as a sympathetic villain because all he wants is to avenge his father... despite all the fathers of children they murdered whilst comitting crimes.

Side question; do you feel sympathy for the villains portrayed like this?
