"childhood pregnancy" is an oxymoron :-)

Evolution is what created our natural state. We are much less likely to be traumatized by things which are natural for our species than by very unnatural behavior.

The simple fact is that women are choosing to have children at higher and higher ages. The average age is about 24 in my country right now.

Provide education and contraception and unplanned pregnancy among teens is easily solved. There is no need to lie to ourselves and shout obvious absurdities like "Babies Having Babies!!!!! Trauma!!!!"

Please don't use the word "kids" unless you're prepared to provide a reasonable definition of the term.

Young adults are perfectly capable of learning about how the world works. Being barred from entering that world they are prevented from learning, their growth is retarded, and the resulting immaturity is then used as an excuse to infantilize them even more. It's a vicious cycle of dumb attitudes causing tremendous harm which our society reacts to by doubling down on the dysfunctional ideas that started the whole problem.

There are, of course, examples of children being forced to grow up too fast.

but what I see around me every day is young adults being constantly told they are little children with deficient brains so they shouldn't even try to grow up at all. Teens are being forced to remain in child status long after they should have moved on. (and their mental health is horrible as a result)

Have you ever read Lenore Skenazy's book "Free Range Kids"? She describes the damage done by overprotective parenting.

Incidentally when I was a kid it was VERY common for boys to deliver newspapers to earn some spending money. That's hardly child labor. And that tradition is gone now. They still hire people to deliver newspapers, but exclusively those over 18. There have been tons of changes for the worse similar to that.

That could be anyone of any age. Your definition of "kids" is ridiculous, stupid and unusable. There are also tons of parents who depend on their kids to support them in their daily lives. Being a senior citizen is no piece of cake :-)

The simple fact is biology turns children into adults. It is a natural process called puberty. Various societies judge the "need" for "support" in all sorts of different ways. Social constructs do not have to be the way we constructed them.

I have no interest in talking about kids. I only discuss young adults aged 14+

You say society has changed, but humans haven't. How does that work? Isn't society a group of humans?

Why should we treat our teenagers any differently now than we did 100 or 200 years ago. (honest question. I really don't know the answer but I am eager to hear what anyone has to say about it. like really, in concrete terms, what is different that requires us to treat, say a 16 year old differently now than before? Specifically.)

Parenting is important of course, but once you're a teenager you should interact directly with society and not rely on parents being good or bad at their job.

I've heard people who are 30 pretty openly state that anyone under 25 is a dimwit due to his/her undeveloped brain, and teenagers are all pieces of shit.
