Do you even read what I post before you respond???

That movie is only 10 years old, and it's not about dating, and there's nothing rapey in it at all.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2265534/

Attitudes have changed. Teens are now profoundly infantilized and it's extremely unhealthy.

People who learn from YouTube :-D

I've done the research. I know what I'm talking about.

You seem to think that the opposite of freedom is protection. That's absurd. All people of all ages should be protected from real danger. Stripping people of their civil rights without any evidence that it's necessary is simply evil. Young adults aged 14+ need to be protected from bad laws that do more harm than good. In New York for example, two 16-year-olds can make love, and both go to prison for the statutory "rape" of the other.

The widespread myth that adulthood begins at 25 is based on the idea that levels of white and grey matter in the brain change from age 13 to 25...

but those levels keep changing well into our 40s.

So we should say that childhood lasts until age 45? or 50?

"done yet" is total bullshit. It doesn't stand up to even the mildest scrutiny.

The only line between childhood and adulthood that ever had any logical basis was puberty. Fear makes people deny that, but they are obviously lying to themselves.

I was a teen in the 80s. It was no bed of roses back then, but in the years since, intense verbal and psychological abuse of teens has become the norm in our society, and it's atrocious.

Wow. That is so wrong. Anyone over 20 chatting with someone under 20 is immediately accused of being a groomer. Under 21s are barred from entering establishments where alcohol is served. So there is strict legal segregation of these arbitrarily defined age-groups (they are naturally one age group, but society decided to make the under 21s children, to lump them in with the 5 year olds and keep them away from the over 20 crowd) - It is now taboo for an over 20 to date a high school student, despite the fact that that was quite recently completely normal. Read the reviews of popular movies. I saw one where all the comments were like "What the hell?!?!? That main character is almost 30! Why the hell is she hanging out with high schoolers!?!?!" (nothing in that movie would have been the least out of the ordinary in the 1980s) ...there is a lot of social pressure to treat teens like children and avoid interacting with them.

"done yet" is total bullshit. Brains, like bodies, never stop changing.

Why is this obvious concept so hard for you to comprehend?

[–] Teal_Tiger@reddthat.com 1 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Nobody anywhere on the planet is advocating for that. So you arguing against it is just long-winded annoying strawman.

It it not true. It is not neuroscience. There are no "measurable differences that you can see with really ez experiments". Some people are more shy than others. Some people get used to speaking in public, others always fear it. That has nothing to do with age. No one is ever "put on display". That is just a nonsense phrase.

your post is a non-sequitur.

Teens get incredible amounts of verbal abuse now. Much more than when I was a kid. People just honestly believe that they're morons and there's nothing anyone can do about it except wait 'till some magical age of 25 when "fully developed" happens.

It was not like that in the 80s. Back then teens were judged on their actions. They were given a chance to prove themselves. Sometimes they failed. Other times they succeeded. There is and was always a lot of individual variation. There are immature idiots of all ages, and responsible reasonable people of all ages. but somehow society forgot that nugget of truth and prefers to turbo-charge rancid bigotry against the young.
