Receiving a bulk company email wishing everyone a happy New Year's from owner and CEO SHODAN and marking it as read so you can focus on EOD deliverables. Everything feels the same.

(with the obvious objections out of the way)

Rationality intensifying.

Imagine that you are a parent, and your child has the misfortune of developing chronic depression at a young age. Their depression resists all forms of treatment, and they live in near constant pain.

Mom and Dad breaking out the potassium chloride when you listen to too much Elliott Smith and refuse to smile for the family Christmas photo.

Is this an enemy of my enemy is my friend situation?

More like a 'friend of my enemy has become their enemy is funny' situation.

the coolness cred of "accelerationism"

The urge to stuff into a locker is overwhelming.

Speaking of Big Yud, has there been any new developments with him since the fallout of his Time Magazine article in March? Not like there's been any international coalition to first strike rogue data centers or whatever. Everyone just kind of ignored him?

In its reaction against both EA and AI safety advocates, e/acc also explicitly pays tribute to another longtime Silicon Valley idea. “This is very traditional libertarian right-wing hostility to regulation," said Benjamin Noys, a professor of critical theory at the University of Chichester and scholar of accelerationism. Jezos calls it the “libertarian e/acc path.”

At least the Italian futurists were up front about their agenda.

“We’re trying to solve culture by engineering,” Verdon said. “When you're an entrepreneur, you engineer ways to incentivize certain behaviors via gradients and reward, and you can program a civilizational system."

Reading Nudge to engineer the 'Volksschädling' to board the trains voluntarily. Dusting off the old state eugenics compensation programs.

Surprise level zero after so-called effective altruists uncritically adopted the Californian ideology, whether about AI alignment or anything else, and furthermore refused any deep critique of capitalism, suddenly seeing the entrepreneurial interests ditch them as soon as their humanistic PR actually threatens the bottom line.

tbh, one thing I'm tired of from the internet, is exactly the post-ironic conflation of "just kinding but also sincerely" as wit. It's actually quite old (mid-late 2000's) and frequently a vehicle for the most vile views on the internet. And it's not clever.

I'm gonna leave my AI safety rant below anyways.
