Just curious what this community's demographics are like! I'm closing in on 3500 myself

Always love the thrill of being the first person at a new GZ... this one came out while I was at home, less than 2km away. It doesn't get much luckier than that!

Located in Coombs on Vancouver Island, BC. Now that's a "Large"!

This is an update to this post.

I turned the backpack inside out to see the damage on the inside. Most of the black plastic coating was gone, and you can see the patch I applied in the outside.

I decided to coat pretty much the entire bottom with Shoe Goo sealant, like I did in my last repair. This gave the material a lot of extra stiffness, as well as waterproofing it. You can see it applied in the shinier areas:

Here is the sealant on the inside of the biggest rip, holding the patch in place:

I know this update isn't particularly visually impressive, but it felt like a pretty successful fix. I'm looking forward to being able to use this bag again!

Another year, another GIFF: 18 short films about Geocaching will be released for viewing later this fall. The event is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, and the finalist entries have just been announced!

Local GIFF events are happening in many areas from November 9 - 19. In my own community, someone booked a theatre room and about 100 people are coming to watch. Is anyone else from Lemmy going to an event?

This was a project for a new geocache I recently put out. It's commemorating a funny bit of local history when a barge became stuck on the beach for over a year after drifting loose from its moorings.

I glued the boat inside a fake rock for a bit more subtlety:

It's been published for about a week now, and reading people's stories has been great. Everyone seems to love remembering the barge on the beach!

Just apples, pumpkin, peanut butter and some spices... this was a fun afternoon project, and they turned out delicious!

This backpack has been stowed away at the back of my closet for a few months waiting to be fixed. It was being held together pretty tenuously: Sewed some of the smaller rips, then added repair tape to the largest one:

Next step will be to turn it inside out and add some more material to the large rip. The entire bottom is pretty much thin enough to let light through at this point. I'll try to post an update once I fix that!

This was a birthday present over 10 years ago, no idea the exact model. It's held up really well, and still gets near daily use.

Clockwise from the left, it has:

  1. Scissors
  2. Saw
  3. Phillips screwdriver
  4. Bottle opener
  5. Small blade
  6. Flashlight (batteries long dead)
  7. Large blade
  8. Can opener
  9. Flat screwdriver
  10. Corkscrew
  11. Mini flat screwdriver (stores away in corkscrew)
  12. Carry hook
  13. Awl
  14. Pin
  15. Toothpick
  16. Tweezers
  17. Ballpoint pen
  18. Key ring

Reading this article got me thinking, I wonder what's the craziest thing someone's found while geocaching? I know of someone who stumbled across a grow-op in the woods while hunting for a cache, another geocacher said he found a gun once. Has anyone actually discovered treasure? Please share your wild stories!

"At first, the Norwegian man thought his metal detector reacted to chocolate money buried in the soil. It turned out to be nine pendants, three rings and 10 gold pearls in what was described as the country's gold find of the century."

Time for some new hides in my area

Ever since I started this hobby, I just can't look at an empty jar/pill bottle/tupperware without something in the back of my head screaming "check if there's a log book inside"! At least these are being put to good use...
