No, it is a parliamentary democracy.

A democracy is never a guarantee of favorable or progressive outcomes.

The people voted for this though. The secular dictatorship was replaced by a democracy, and this is something Sunni and Shia parties agree on with a majority in the parliament. The old (abolished) law was introduced in 1959 with the beginning of the republican era after the end of the monarchy in 1958.

Even the opposition to it doesn't look that popular, not a lot of people:

The US put Iraq through sanctions, killed its scientists, and artists, and then invaded it and destroyed its infrastructure. The majority of Iraqis left through all that trauma had nothing but their religion institutions and tribal connections left, and through the democratic system the US imposed voted for this directly or indirectly. It sucks, but the destruction of Iraq started decades ago.

I don’t argue with Zionists, bots or otherwise. The humans are just as insufferable.

I don’t know if Netanyahu is glad now that the Iraqi resistance is attacking Israel. But he did a good job selling it to congress.

I must be getting old if Gnome 3.0 is considered a classic now. Gnome 2 (MATE) forever for me.

US sanction power is not like it was in the 1990s. I think most people don't realize that.

Being poor is why I had a Chevrolet Spark once. I would have bought a Chinese car if I could.

Scholz is on his way out though.

I misread secrecy as sorcery and got excited for a moment.

She is still a horrible person who have excused Israeli crimes in the past. Hopefully this is the beginning of real change.

This is the lesser evil they wanted millions to vote for

Be optimistic, he might accidentally destroy it.

O'odham Woman Becomes Hero When Genocide Joe Comes to Town

By Brenda Norrell, Censored News, Oct. 25, 2024

"In the #GilaRiver Indian Community today, Biden claimed to be issuing an apology to #NativeAmerican children who were victims of U.S. #BoardingSchools. His glory campaign was short-lived.

"As Biden spoke, an O'odham woman held up this sign: 'There Are Still Babies in Mass Graves. Your Apology Means Nothing!! #LandBack!'

"Calling out to Biden, she said, 'What about the people in #Gaza! What about the people in #Palestine?'

"'How can you apologize for a #genocide while actively committing a genocide in Palestine! #FreePalestine.'

"Security removed her."

In Michigan, home to the nation’s largest Arab American communities, 13.3 percent of Democratic primary voters selected “uncommitted.” In Wisconsin, where Biden won in 2020 by roughly 20,000 votes, more than double that number signaled the same status. And in Pennsylvania, where the margin is expected to be just as razor-thin, about 60,000 people, including Shepperd, wrote in some version of not-Biden. All three states carry outsize importance in determining November’s winner.
