I bet a lot of folks have just quietly given up or moved to lemmy or mbin because they’ve gotten frustrated with all the issues.

I made an alt two months ago when Kbin would never connect. I have barely been back since, so it is now my main. I hoped Kbin would come out if its slump but... that seems unlikely at this point. I'm actually quite happy on Lemmy, especially after the v0.19 upgrade allows blocking of an entire instance. I personally virtually never see any spam (maybe one comment per month) and while connection issues do occur, they are like a handful per week rather than handful per hour (it varies a lot though, sometimes it does get bad for a day or two and then weeks go by without a hitch).

I avoided the initial hurdle of making a Lemmy account for so long and, while it was super annoying, in retrospect it wasn't that bad, compared to all the other problems here and still having to go through all that, eventually.

If anyone is thinking about switching: don't worry unduly about it, just make an account and see if you like it, but you can always keep your Kbin active too, assuming Kbin remains alive.

Also, you may need to try out a few places before you find one that fits you best. But that reduces your anxiety bc you know more and don't need to worry about having to do it again in a worst-case scenario.

Counterpoint: why you came no longer matters, for now you will never leave... :-P

I used to be proud of how I never blocked anybody.

Now I don't look back:-).

Live and learn.

That is what both Hamas and also Israel are doing right now, and somewhat the Republican party in the less literal sense. So... I hope it does not come to that! Although it's weird to think of siding with Jesus against the church, to be whipping the people who have corrupted its original message of "love your neighbor".

99 > 100, seems legit

You can use an electric beater instead of a wire whisk. It makes it extra chewy. :-P

Wolf asks "can I come in?"

Piglet says "no!"

Wolf now knows it's worth busting down the heavy door...yummy.

Yup, it's so weird even that we might also have the technology to save ourselves - like maybe AI should be ruling us instead of humans (bc that way whoever made the AI can be the secret king - surely that's not new either:-P).

But history does tend to run in cycles, for whatever that's worth. One day the sun won't shine down on us anymore, but so far it always has, even if that doesn't mean that it always will.

In any case, definitely some hard times coming up ahead, that much seems certain at least. Though extinction, while possible, is not a foregone conclusion. I mean, if even Kurzgesagt can find hope, it must be warranted.:-) video 1, video 2 focusing mostly on climate change

To be fair, it will also be true in 2024 as well:-).

They threw out all the old guard who knew how to compromise then. But it was the rise of the Alt Right that turned it actively dangerous.

Like a ratchet effect: make gains whenever you can, then hold the line (doing nothing) until you can "progress" again:-|. Say what you will about the ethics of that, but it is strategic. As Jon Stewart said, "liberal media aims to be correct, while conservative media is effective". We should learn from that. I'm not saying copy, and quite frankly I'm not sure what, but open our eyes at the very least, e.g. as you said by recognizing their deeper intentions.
