I’d second murderbot by Martha Wells or the Laundry Files by Charles Stross starting with The Atrocity Archives.

I’m struggling to get through the first of the Thieves’ World anthologies. I generally struggle with anthologies or short story collections because the character and the writing styles change so I can’t really be build up any momentum. The stories are generally enjoyable and it’s something that’s been on my reading list for a long time because one of the short story characters is one I really enjoy.

Great reader, by the way, kobo makes by far the superior device currently for a dedicated reader.

After working with the user chaley in MobileRead forums a while back, this is what they helped come up with and it works perfectly for my needs. Sorry for the delay in posting this, I just realized I should include this here for posterity. I just realized that the code block mixes up the formatting, don’t hesitate with any questions.

program: val = $#pagecount; if $formats && $formats != 'PDF' && list_intersection($tags, 'Graphic Novel, Cookbook', ',') == '' then switch_if( val ==# 0, '', val <# 15, 'Flash Fiction', val <# 50, 'Short Story', val <# 100, 'Novelette', val <# 250, 'Novella', val <# 500, 'Short Novel', val <# 750, 'Long Novel', val <# 1000, 'Tome', 'Toe Breaker') fi

It shouldn’t be that surprising, Margarine Traitor Greed kept showing off Hunter’s hog in committee meetings. Where do they think he got it?

I can too. I put my hand on the input device and the signals my brain sends translates that into the movement of the mouse to a specific location on the screen.

I thought I remembered posting this when the 1st book was $2 but I’m not seeing it, that might have been back on the Reddit equivalent. This trilogy is a bunch of fun and is basically “what if a bunch of Victorian monster characters (or their children) had a team up to solve crimes.

The first book suffers a little bit from being written where you hear the voices in the writing of the characters you haven’t met yet, because it’s written as though it’s a journal or diary. Because you’ve met the other characters by now and know who they are this doesn’t have the same issue .

I have been putting the rice in the phone. That must have been the problem.

Weird how bringing up really old statements and positions up as a reason not to vote for someone is ok for the people you don’t want to vote for, but it’s bad when it’s the people you support.

Weird picking a genocide denier who made enough controversial statements Bernie pulled his endorsement before Cenk tried to Uno Reverse it by claiming he didn’t accept any endorsements.

I’m 43 and I’m not sure you’d want me on a fire hose either.

I’ve helped care for multiple older adults though between mine and my wives families. and there’s a lot of variability in that age group. My wife’s dad just passed away at 64, his dad passed away last year at 95 and was super fit and clear minded until cancer started to beat his ass in 2020 and his mom is 87 and and walks miles each day and is incredibly fit and active and mentally sharp.

At that age, it’s quite possible for some older adults to still be incredibly capable of some strenuous activity, but those aren’t the ones eating hamberders and diet coke every meal.
