Yes, the amount of excise added to fuel is public information.

Also, our fuel market is quite competitive, as long as you have one of the independent retailers in the area at least. Someone will be the first to move, and the others will follow.

I definitely agree with you there.

I've got a diesel vehicle myself, I'd love a system that automatically pays RUCs. They exist, but are aimed at businesses with a fleet of vehicles.

With electric vehicles, while they operate purely on electricity, taxing it would be a nightmare as you can "refuel" an EV anywhere.

Given an ever increasing amount of vehicles are either plug in hybrid or EV, this is probably the best way to do this.

It's also an election promise, and part of the coalition agreement, so not really a surprise.

Or a flatmate.

$3250 a year, which is steep, but that's the cost of doing business for a small council.

I mean, the alternatives are far worse.

I'd love to know what his plan was with this. Did he think they would give up and go home?

[–] Ilovethebomb@lemmy.nz 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Definitely, someone would be dead if they tasted like lollies. Especially since children have been eating them.

Well, some good news for once. I've been fixing at 6 months the last few renewals, in the hope rates will start to drop.

It's an interesting idea actually.

Battery electric hybrid, to be exact, with no diesel involved. Scheduled to arrive 2028-2029

Some kinda hilarious quotes from the owner here.

I'm not even sure what they're doing. I believe they're protesting against light rail or something."

Gazley said the dealership supported sustainable transport options.

"Maybe they should inspect some of the vehicles that we have, because the majority of them are hybrid and electric vehicles."

And then...

"And then I believe they tried to glue their hands to the footpath, but the glue didn't set in time and they were arrested by the police."

Maybe they'll go after a Tesla dealership next?

Watching the way drones have been used in Ukraine has been fascinating, it's my belief that expendable unmanned drones of all sizes will play a crucial role in future conflicts, both as observation platforms and as munitions.

Ukraine has sunk or damaged a number of warships with their drone boats, and the Bayraktar played a key role in the sinking of the Moskva. They also damaged a number of aircraft far behind enemy lines with Australian made cardboard drones.

We should have a plan on how to use this technology, but even more important is that we have a plan to counter it should it be used against us.

I had no idea he was also robbing banks to fund his run.

Whoever let him take the kids for a second time has a lot to answer to.

It was only a matter of time before an irate tradie threw hands at them.

We don't get paid to sit in traffic.

The last few posts made here, they've shown up, made the most inane, idiotic, and pointless comments, upvoted each other in a frenzy of circle jerking, and generally made a pest of themselves.

They're a nuisance, and add nothing of value to the Lemmy experience.

What the hell is happening in Auckland?

The front didn't fall off, but it was damaged.

Waves? At sea? In the cook strait?

What are the chances?

This article somewhat misses the point about why people are so concerned about crime, in my view. We have recently had a number of high profile, very public, violent crimes in the last few months. Dairy robberies, ram raids, shootings in the middle of the CBD, motorists being beaten by dirt bikers.

It's honestly unhelpful and insensitive to say "statistically speaking" when people are seeing this happen all around them.

The Wellington CBD, for example, is definitely less safe than a few years ago, with people getting aggressive with you for no reason. We also had a violent robbery of a jeweller's shop quite recently as well.

I was on the Kaitaki when it lost power off Red Rocks, which was almost a maritime disaster, and now this? This is beyond a joke at this point.

We no doubt have a large amount people here interested in the outdoors, I would like to formally request an "outdoors" thread be created for this instance?
