Für mich war es vor ein paar Jahren auch kein Problem, die kostenlose Auskunft zu bekommen, aber ich erinnere mich noch genau, dass ich mir sehr unsicher war, ob das meinem Vermieter reicht.
Die 30€ Version wird schließlich mit "Offizieller Nachweis Ihrer Bonität (Original-Zertifikat) zur sicheren Weitergabe an Dritte" beworben, die kostenlose Auskunft ist dagegen bloß eine "Kopie der bei der SCHUFA gespeicherten Daten zu Ihrer Person".

Except that's not really the trade-off. There will still be means to secure communication and people who have an incentive to do so will go the extra mile to make sure they won't be spied upon.
