The other day it rewrote a registry key that prevented these pop ups.

This is what drove me away. There are like 7 people that figured out how to make these pop-ups disappear and Microsoft invested money to "patch" that "error" to ensure they were forced to continue seeing these ads.

Why would they do that when people use this one all the same?

Plenty of other places to upload images. I think catbox.moe is a popular one.

The poor UI and lack of polish has been a big problem in design communities for a long time

I dunno what to tell you except that it's not a problem now.

For all the deserved shit that Windows gets, it "just works" without ever needing to touch config or a terminal.

Most people don't need to use anything other than a browser, which works fine.

I can't see Reddit anymore

A nice looking UI with good fonts, and a clean interface.

Pretty much anything beats Windows in that regard.

The ability to run random Windows applications with minimal fuss.

I mean if you REALLY can't find a FOSS alternative, Bottles has been extremely successful and easy for me...

All without needing to use the terminal

This is the biggest hangup for me. Even if there is a GUI, most instructions will send you into the terminal nonetheless.

Better question is "why not"?

Uhhhh well maybe you're privvy to some insider information you'd like to share? Because they've announced no such intention.

Crop it? Sooo then you're just back to horizontal but at a significantly degraded resolution...

This is another wonderful piece of software from FOSS advocate FUTO.

Aside from another method to bypass YT ads, you can watch your favorite creators on a wide variety of platforms, all in a single app. No complicated configuration required like ReVanced. You can export your subscriptions list from Google via Google Takeout, or from FreeTube/LibreTube/New pipe etc. and when you open the file it should automatically open in GrayJay.

You can also perform cross-platform searches.

PeerTube does work but it uses the FUTO instance, which does not federate, so you can only watch/search FUTO videos. Some work is still needed in that area, but it's probably also the least popular platform sooo...

This is a paid app based on the honor system and currently only supports Stripe for payments. It's a 1-time $10 fee.

Futo also makes a casting app called FCast so you can cast videos from this app to your Android TV box after installation.

I'm just thinking out loud here.

Steam Deck 2 is a long way away, and I think that's great. Giving developers a specific hardware target is crucial, and having consumers feel like they need to immediately upgrade is bad.

However, I think there is room for an advanced SD that's not necessarily "new" but just an external improvement over the existing model at a higher price tier for those looking for a premium experience.

Also I'm going to be nitpicking here, don't take that the wrong way, I love the SD but it does have some weak points.

So then Steam Deck LE would be identical to the current one with the exception of:

  • The screen. Wow this is probably the greatest weakness of the SD. A larger display with smaller bezels and better color accuracy would go a long way to improving the experience.

  • Hall Effect joysticks. Again, nitpicking here but it'd be nice to see a premium version with these included.

  • 1TB SSD. I originally bought the 64GB version thinking I would just use an SD card no problem. But the ridiculous amount of shader cache, the various Proton versions (~1GB each) and some other software like EmuDeck and Heroic, as well as the annoyance of moving things back and forth had me upgrading quickly to a 1TB, which immediately ended all of those concerns.

  • Different color ways. I'm partial to white but a transparent purple version would be nice to see also.

  • At least 1 more USB-C port... so we can do things like video out while charging.

What else would you like to see added?

Hi friends. I switched to Fedora and been using it for several months now. I am now using it 90% of the time but do occasionally have to boot into Windows.

I have run into a space limitation, so I want to reallocate some disk space from Windows to Fedora.

I was able to successfully unallocated space from the Windows partition but haven't been able to reallocate it to the Fedora partition.

Preferably using CLI as little as possible... 😫

Thanks in advance!

The absolute worst possible time for system and game updates is when I am booting up the device or starting a game.

My Fedora and Windows OSs both give you a "update and shut down" option. This is the best time to do updates.

When Steam is a desktop program, it obviously is not involved in the OS and not aware when you are shutting down but when Steam IS the OS? Seems like a fairly obvious inclusion.

Now obviously there can be additional mandatory updates between startups, but this would at least help to minimize those.

Why is this not standard? Is this something the community could develop? Maybe via plug-in?

Tried to use OSMAnd last week to navigate around on vacation. For some reason it seems to be incapable of searching for house numbers, which is an instant dealbreaker. I'm very confused as to how or why this is a thing on such a mature product.

I was able to share a location from GMaps WV over to it to get navigation working, and from there the navigation was awesome!

Currently also testing Magic Earth and Organic Maps but I'm very interested to hear from those with more experience.

I realize that Mastodon is specifically intended not to have any sort of algorithm, and I understand and appreciate that, but it's not what I want, personally. I want to have the posts in my feed sorted by the ones with the most "engagement" as those are likely the most interesting ones.

P2P network with no servers. Added "communities" with Facebook-like posts (my preference). Looks cool but it's missing a lot of details and it seems like there's almost no one using it at the moment, despite feeling very polished.

Been wanting to leave the platform for a long time. The Fediverse in it's many shapes and forms has rid me of that desire.

Be sure and check out wefwef.app for a usable mobile PWA for Lemmy!
