It would be some comeback story for Van Dijk to have one of the best ever primes a centre back ever had from 2018-2020, pick up an ACL injury that's put him out for a year, go back to having a brilliant 21/22 season, then having a very poor 22/23 season with people calling him finished and then going on to hit world class levels again

I think people are more angry about where the money comes from (which wasn't an issue when Liverpool and United dominated respectively) and the fact that regardless of spending a lot of money, there is growing evidence that City have been ignoring the existing financial rules for years anyway

I don't want to be that guy but this is exactly what Chelsea were doing ten years ago under Abramovich

City in 2023 and Chelsea in 2013 have a lot of similarities when you think about it. Clubs that were largely irrelevant at the very top level for a long time and then both clubs were bought by foreign entities where the money being funnelled into both clubs attracted a lot of criticism due to the questionable morals that the owners represented

Both clubs started to immediately find success not long after the respective takeovers and just after winning the European cup for the first time, both clubs are starting to cement themselves as established football clubs amongst younger generations

I'm sorry but you'll never be able to convince me that City legitimately overtook United as a financial giant in the span of a decade. Obviously they've grown in recent years and will continue to do so but to go from where they were in 2008 to now in such a quick amount of time? I'm not buying that

As someone who's always held a relatively positive opinion of Newcastle as both a football club and as a city, it's sad to see the club act like this. I don't blame Newcastle fans for being delighted that Mike Ashley is gone but the attitude coming out from the club, the staff and certain parts of the fanbase really rubs you the wrong way at times and it's very disappointing

That video that was making the rounds on social media a while back of some Newcastle fans being very disrespectful towards the older fan voicing his opinions on the takeover wasn't nice to watch at all

It's things like that which is why we need to give Alisson a new 10 year contract asap

Everton: Potentially avoids relegation because Sheffield United, Luton Town, Burnley and Bournemouth are somehow worse

The Premier League: Fine I'll do it myself

In fairness to them, it would be very awkward if they tried to ban their own players and staff from the Ethiad

Shame they never take this stance for the numerous times their fans have mocked the Hillsborough disaster. Obviously this is the correct course of action but it does feel like a slap in the face when nothing happens when City fans are constantly singing about Hillsborough both at the Etihad and at Anfield. The best we get is a half assed "sorry if you're offended, if it happened" apology from Pep and that's basically it

If I was memed on to extent that a politician in Ghana was making jokes about my shit defending while playing for one of the biggest teams in the world over the last few years, I'd keep my mouth shut as much as possible

So criticising your own fans for booing Jordan Henderson under perfectly reasonable circumstances just makes you come off as a clown

Some footballers have so much hubris and suffer from an impressive lack of self awareness it's actually crazy
