This is hard, I either did not read those series or I read them like twenty-thirty years ago! All I can guess is Nr 2 might be the Professor, Nr 8 one of the Daltons and Nr 10 maybe Pirlouit\Peewit\Pfiffikus because there is his goat in the last panel.

When looking up this album on social media, I came across a comment which suggested that by this point, Egypt had already been conquered for 500 years. IIRC it was first the Kush, then the… Babylonians? and finally Alexander’s (and Ptolemy’s) Greeks.

More like 700 years. Egypt was conquered by Kush in 712 BCE. In 671 BCE the Assyrians came and took over. The Egyptians rebelled successfully and kicked them out in 653 though. The next conqueror who attacked Egypt was Persia in 525, the conquest was finished in 341. Persian rule lasted until Alexander the Great took Egypt without resistance in 331. After Alexanders death his generals divided the empire among each other, thereby forming the Diadochi kingdoms. Ptolemy got Egypt and founded the dynasty that ended with the famous Cleopatra in 30 BCE when she died and Egypt was incorporated as a roman province.

I have no clue what series that could be but you should know that the biggest german meme about Saarland is that everyone there is somehow related and people regularly marry their close relatives/siblings. It is a bit like the Alabama of germany. Those are of course just rumors not based in reality (mostly).

your favorite Python of choice, not just Michael Palin!

Easy, that will always be the multi faceted Terry Gilliam, especially considering he not only made the hilarious animations for Monty Pythons and directed Knights of the Round and Life of Brian but also Brazil, 12 Monkeys and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

I remember reading a co-interview he had with Miyazaki, and while the former seemed to speak clearly and comprehensively, Giraud seemed to be speaking as if from dreamland, with the interviewer and Miyazaki frequently not quite sure what he meant(!) But maybe that makes perfect sense for one such as he.

I can think of a possible reason for that. As far as I know Giraud regularly utilized drugs. For example he developed his own fast drawing technique that included microdosing Cannabis during work. I also heard first hand, from someone who personally met Giraud once, that he was quite fond of LSD.

You take that back about the kitties right now, or I am going to tell Astrid!

Cool review, good work! I wish more people would be interested in thought experiments that question social norms on such a fundamental level.

In any case, I love this series you’ve turned up here, Nico.

Thank you!

To me, it just goes to show how movies can go through so many planning-aspects, with the final-product barely resembling all the initial work put in to it, you know?

That made me remember Jodorowsky's Dune. I guess I will never get over it T_T

Clean and classic style, beautiful!

I am unsure, maybe someone who remembers the movie can give us a hint?
