As title says. I think my PC is using like a max of 500w when it's juicing but idles for less. I was thinking of using an ecoflow high grade setup for this. Anyone have experience doing something similar?

I might switch to a small micro tower setup by Dell or Lenovo that uses like 120w max. The new Mac minis seem to cap out at 39w though which is crazy.

Do you guys really buy into these self ads for influencers

It's a tale as old as time: YouTuber's PR team or the influencer themselves post the influencers face to /G/ and say "is he our savior?". Then people take the bait and ask who, along with original poster. The person then looks up guys name and watches their YouTube videos.

Somehow 🙄 the mods just don't see or take down the post! As if it's legitimate chatter about some influencer, who isn't tech.

...Do you guys actually fall for this shit?

Isn't Biden 80 years old?

This is a misplay but if you look at the numbers Kennedy is losing to Biden in polls by a large 50% margin but also I've never heard of this site so beware its credibility:

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/president-primary-d/2024/national/

I'm not keen on Biden continuing at his age. Because you're voting for his vice president at that age.

I don't think Biden could beat Trump again. Every person who got laid off during Bidens administration will have something to say about it in the voting booth. Democrats need to push up a better candidate.

You're about to make a lot of enemies 😂

Last time someone posted this stupid fucking article up on a different tech lemmy I got into it with some single brain cells morons.

It's open source tech. You could fork the entire thing if you didn't like the CEO. Who cares.

Reddit is a fall back but without an account if I need to see if people are having issues with an online game for example. But other than that nah man.

Fuck em. Lemmy has enough cool stuff for me. I run out of content though after fifteen minutes though.

I'm going to be making my own mastodon server soon so I want to replace majority of my miscellaneous scrolling and commenting I was doing on twitter with that. I had deleted my twitter but brought it back because it's one of the few exclusive ways I can communicate with brands or game companies to request new features. And it seems to work when I give feedback on there. So it's hard to get rid of from a practical sense.

I don't have access to that data. And I don't won't to be misconstrued as promoting Elon or his activities (not that you're doing that but I see the downvotes).

I'm just explaining what I think he's doing. It's what I'd pitch personally if I noticed red voters trend and visibly meme anti EV and I had obligations to shareholders I had to keep.

People are better off buying EV anyways. ICE vehicles are disgusting. I think people just like to assign large structures like businesses and folks like Elon to their political idealogies. Businesses and governments have to be larger than that because they need to serve people at the end of the day with either product or policy.

It's gotta be topics that you're willing to talk about daily. I have a few gaming and crypto ones but nothing I'm married to yet.

I was thinking I might do something with FOSS since Im passionate about it and have interesting insight to share potentially. We'll see.

We have a lot of freedom to engage across other servers without defederation. The content you see on lemmy is limited to federation, so it's important to have a grounded server owner.

I think going forward I myself and others here need to pick some topics and make some.popular sublemmies here too. That's where you find the most value.

Kinda wild seeing this thread as a a dude who finds block chain stuff interesting but isn't invested in any coin. I started up a few subs on my local if anyone wants to talk about it but yeah, I also love solar punk stuff so to speak and clean energy, and they are working against each other in current deployments.

Hope you guys come up with something that works for all your users on your lemmy server.

TIL there's a solar community, cool.

I'm a fan of looking up articles information especially in regards to far left media. Far right usually is pretty easy to tell it's fake because it's so outlandish and off the cuff.

I looked into some of the guys mentioned in this article to confirm if they're far right or if they're actually just some old guy bitching about the way things used to be and going a little too far... No. It was like hardcore racists making insane remarks online. Some of them I couldn't find but look it up. One of them has a website. Insanity.

Good article OP.

I wonder if they know that starfield is coming out, no man's sky's been available forever, and there's a plethora of other games out there.

I think people are addicted to a fantasy.

I had the same idea but there's a lot of actual tangible assets that have to be dealt with.

The first part is picking a pilot country which is probably where the developer lives. The second is either investing in or partnering with Fast ship locations - you need a service or partner that you can use like Amazon prime to store inventory across a country, and last is shipping and delivery maybe it's baked in. I bet there's a company that does this that has an API or partnership program.

In other words you have to establish partnerships or literally incentivize real people to invest in order to create the same value as Amazon. The magic of amazon isn't really that's it's like eBay and buying things online, it's that I can get it so soon.

Hey folks. Just wanted to put out a good word about Nostr. I'm finding it to be pleasantly easy to use and very akin to twitter but uses soft servers in the form of relays. Its not quite moving away from servers but where decentralization is happening frequently, its nice to give that liberty back to users.

Anyways its worth a try, here are some web clients. Just make sure to save your PK its basically your login:

https://nostr.com/clients

  • We have a great server host an admin
  • It is cleaned up of morally & legally compromising posts to keep the server out of hot water.

Thanks for hosting us!

Making this post so we have a more positive greeting when you open the Lemmy app or land on the home page ;-)

An old publication more relevant now than ever - The Cathedral and the Bazaar. A comparison of software practices in the early 2000s with some retrospective to how great software is built.

I think much of the writing can be applied to today's federated content models.

In particular:

  • The Mail Must Get Through
  • Necessary Preconditions for the Bazaar Style
  • The Importance of Having Users

What tech if any have you found interesting lately?

What tech concerns if any do you have as of late?

Mine:

  • concerned about the google web DRM. I've been digging into android and trying to give stock android a chance again but the DRM stuff makes me want to jump over to iOS for tap to pay + carplay and Graphene/Calyx for my daily internet usage. Android added a builtin ad ID to their phones which makes me pretty uncomfortable.
  • Decentralized Tech, like Radicle, Gitopia, Mango for Git and Ethereum DApps (again). Feels like there is a lot of good that can be done but anything I'd build with ethereum I'd really want to disambiguate from the culture of scam/scam coins. The notion that most successful platforms today are ones people can make a career off of like being an influencer isn't lost on me and I think ethereum offering ways to maybe appeal to that is good.
  • IPFS (interplanetary file system). Love the idea but can't seem to find a good entry point or an easy way to discover content and really understand how a consumer would user this outside of an app providing that contex/gateway for it to connect to
  • Nim Programming language: I love that it looks and reads like lisp/python but compiles like C. I feel like I adopted docker because python and nodejs weren't portable binaries.

title. We live in interesting times. Those especially traveled, would love to hear your input.

Hey all!

I'm seeking guidance. I have a lot of apps that use ORMs like Mongoose or Sequelize or Sqlalchemy, or even just init-db scripts with raw SQL. Point is a lot of apps have changes to the data layer. When we program and make apps they tend to describe how they need to see a database. Sometimes its no trivial feat to do an upgrade - and even if you have a CI/CD pipeline in place what does that look like to have something like even lemmy upgrade in a container.

If you have these apps in production how are you handling these apps? Both developer perspective and devops welcomed.

I see the devs offering insight into maybe how the backend recognizes database state, while the devops perhaps either describing process and implementation.
