Peaceful civilians are being arrested for wearing masks during protests while ICE agents and riot police wear full facial coverings, hide their names, and refuse identification.

Trump backed new mask bans, claiming:

“If you’re not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to hide.”

Yet government agents are literally hiding their identities while dragging people off the streets.

This isn’t safety.
This is authoritarian control.

Your right to protest with a mask is protected by the Constitution.

1st Amendment – U.S. Constitution
Protects freedom of speech, peaceful assembly, and anonymous political expression.
Wearing a mask during protest is a symbolic act of protected political speech.
Read the full amendment (Cornell Law)

Legal Cases That Back You Up:

  • McIntyre v. Ohio Elections Comm’n (1995):
Supreme Court upheld anonymous political speech as protected.

“Anonymity is a shield from the tyranny of the majority.”
    Read ruling

  • NAACP v. Alabama (1958):
Government can’t force disclosure of identity when it risks intimidation.
    Full decision

  • American Knights of the KKK v. City of Goshen (1999):
Court blocked a blanket mask ban, affirming mask-wearing can be political expression.

  • Church of the American Knights v. Kerik (2004):
Mask bans must be narrow and not suppress speech.
    Case summary

This is how fascism takes hold.

First, they arrest you for what you wear.
Next, it’s what you say.
Then it’s how you believe or who you are.

Today it’s a protest mask.
Tomorrow it’s a Pride flag.
Or a cultural clothing.
Or not being Christian.

This is state power targeting visibility and identity and it’s not random. It’s calculated.

You are not their subject. You are a citizen with rights.

They want obedience.
They want fear.
They want silence.

And that’s exactly why you must not give it to them.

We demand:

  • An immediate end to unconstitutional protest mask bans
  • A federal investigation into unmarked, masked agents arresting civilians
  • Equal protection for protesters not just for the state

Resources:

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing.”
— Edmund Burke

This is not a time for silence.
This is not a time for fear.

This is the time to stand together.

This gives me hope and a sense of security knowing our soldiers are still loyal to the Constitution and to the People, NOT Trump

Hey,

I’m from France and I’ve been following this sub since the very first call to protest.
Yesterday, I saw a whole segment (about 30 minutes) on France Info (our public news channel) about your protests and the repression Trump is doing. It’s the first time I’ve seen a major French media outlet really talk about it!

In France, we know a bit about protesting — I’ve been to plenty myself — and NEVER has a government sent in the army. There was a lot of police violence during the Yellow Vests protests and many people got injured, but still, no army.

I know that maybe people in the US aren’t as used to protesting as we are (or maybe it’s just harder because of work and life), and honestly, when I saw the first protests I wasn’t sure people would stick with it for so long — but you did, and it’s amazing!

Anyway, you’re being talked about in French media now, maybe mostly because of Trump’s repression for the moment, but still — your movement is being heard outside the US, and that matters.

So yeah, I’m not sure what my point was exactly, but I just wanted to say I’m really proud of you all.

Stay strong and stay safe!

Trump/Miller's response to these protests has been to immediately encourage ICE to escalate their raids around specific cities, calling politicians on the left radical while they're being assassinated in cold blood. It doesn't matter if we meet that magic number and they ignore us anyway. Not if we go home the same day. We need to organize in a way where we don't need to leave the streets. By continuing to work and pay taxes, we are participating in our own destruction. We need to clog the machine, in every civil way possible, until they concede. The next protest needs to be a general strike. You can't truly call for change if you're still feeding from their hand while their other hand is in your pocket.

So don't go home, or at least get out there every day until they concede. Some of us don't have the luxury of a home to go back to. Some have been robbed of our life and liberty and sent to some foreign gulag until the day we die. And soon their hateful rhetoric will build until they come for you, too. The civil war never ended and the Heritage Foundation has been planning this for decades. Now is our chance to crush fascism where it stands. For our next protest, get out there and HOLD THE LINE. If they deprive us of our lives for doing so, that was their plan anyway. Whatever peace you feel holed up in your comfortable box of an existence is an illusion. I would rather die than live in a Christofascist state. I was raised in and escaped from a Christian doomsday cult - I would be very disappointed to find out that I left it for nothing, for people who would not defend our home and our way of life because it was "too inconvenient." Now is the time for conviction. If you can't choose a side, you've already lost.

The 4th of July is supposed to be a celebration of freedom, independence, and the founding ideals of this country. But what does it mean to celebrate freedom while our rights are actively being stripped away?

The Trump administration and its allies are not just pushing policies we disagree with…they are dismantling the very foundations of democracy: threatening bodily autonomy, suppressing the vote, inciting violence, criminalizing dissent, and trying to place themselves above the law. That is not freedom. That is authoritarianism in real time.

To protest on the 4th of July is not to "ruin a party" it is to honor what the holiday is supposed to stand for. This isn’t about fireworks and barbecues. It’s about showing up when it matters. If we only celebrate freedom when it’s easy, and stay silent when it’s under attack, then we’ve completely lost the plot.

Historically, protest has always been a patriotic act. The original 4th of July came out of a revolution…one where people stood up against tyranny and demanded something better. We’re facing a modern-day version of that same fight, and this is the moment to be visible, loud, and united.

We can’t wait for a “better day” to push back. The whole point is that they’re trying to take those days away from us. If the 4th of July becomes just another excuse to look away, we’ve surrendered what little power we have left.

A group of 15 of my friends and I are going to be in DC to protest with or without organizers like 50501 of they choose to do it another day, I’m hoping to find others who will stand with us! If interested please message me on Instagram @ruralresistanceNM

President Donald Trump on Sunday directed federal immigration officials to prioritize deportations from Democratic-run cities, a move that comes after large protests erupted in Los Angeles and other major cities against the Trump administration’s immigration policies.

White women of suburbia, I need you to harness your biggest Karen. Do you think the French Resistance was just young men with rifles? It wasn’t. They resisted fascism in whatever ways they could. They passed messages. They gave shelter. And those long-gone French aunties, do you know what they did?

They were a pain in the ass.

They showed up at checkpoints and took their time. Their cars broke down right there in front of convoys. They didn’t confront. They played dumb. And they wasted time.

And that time mattered.

A mom working two jobs might need five more minutes to get home and hide. A dad might need ten more minutes to get his kids out the back. You’ll never know for sure if what you did helped. That’s the thing about this kind of resistance. You don’t get medals. You don’t get parades.

You just get in the way.

I know “Karen” is a bad stereotype. But my dad’s sister could argue with a phone company rep for an hour and still be invited to their wedding. She could walk into any store and walk out with a discount, store credit, and probably an apology. That’s a gift. And right now, that’s what we need.

You don’t have to fight. But if you find yourself near an ICE officer, and you can stall him—just for ten minutes—with a question about a warrant or where to find the nearest Post Office, that’s your act of resistance.

That’s your victory. We need you.

I wasn't sure it was the right choice at first, but I now realize it was brilliant.
