if internet didn't exist, I'd probably be a religious person, who wouldn't read any religious books but would have followed the customs. But with internet, and by interacting with different people, I became atheist.

what value can anything add to a planet?

a planet is a dead mass, no matter what you do to it, it don't increase any value of it. The universe outside of earth don't recognize it as some rare event or something sacred, even if humans disappear all of a sudden, a few years later some asteroid will hit it and the rest of life would wipe out. No big deal if we use the resources and destroy the planet, or the universe do it.
