I was concerned these recent stabbings would start a push towards screwing over people like me who regularly carry pocket knives, and unsurprisingly it's started. It's rather disappointing how many people go straight to pearl clutching at the mention of a knife even though I and many others have had them on hand as useful tools for decades without feeling the need to stab anyone.

Same. I’ve carried a Swiss Army Life pretty much every day of my adult life and I can’t remember ever stabbing anyone.
If you were schizophrenic and had an episode you quite possibly could have stabbed someone and not remembered it.
Politicians need to be seen to be "doing something", so they're doing something. Doesn't have to make sense, and is purely reactionary, but it's easier and faster than doing something long term about mental health. Now they can tick a box and move on. It's not right 😕

Are they saying they could have prevented this in QLD if they searched the guy? But they had no reason to stop or search him? Because he wasn't doing anything illegal?

Clearly a moronic idea but no doubt there will be some idiots in the community who support it, just like proactive policing in NSW or mandatory data retention online.
