A hover fly, not hovering.
It landed right on my gate as I was about to open it this afternoon, practically begging to have its portrait taken. Look at that beautiful compound eye.

In all seriousness it's a great shot, look at that little fur(?) around the torso, looks like a fluffy jacket. Almost cute, I'm not an insect person but this is interesting
