And yet, years later, the ringleader of this one ring circus still hasn't spent a night in jail. #justice

[–] Illuminostro@lemmy.world 19 points 5 months ago

Prison is for those people, and class traitors who steal from the rich instead of the poors.

[–] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago (3 children)

And he never will. You guys need to tamper your expectations. Trump is never ever going to set foot in jail.

[–] Crackhappy@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago

I believe you are correct. There is no justice for the poor.

I understand that they're wildly different situations, but this is the same thing people said about Videla. Speaking of which, go watch Argentina, 1985!

Ah, he didn't announce his SPECIAL APPEARANCE in red ink and a 45 degrees slant, did he?

[–] son_named_bort@lemmy.world 27 points 5 months ago (1 children)

He did, but the American flag in the courtroom had a gold fringe so it didn't count under maritime law.

[–] Halosheep@lemm.ee 17 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Damn that one is tricky. He should've sent them a letter of intent to remove the flag signed in good faith before the trial. Classic blunder.

I honestly can't tell if you're quoting actual sovcit lunacy, or we're just playing Calvinball.

[–] Snailpope@lemmy.world 10 points 5 months ago

Sadly they are basically the same thing

[–] Honytawk@lemmy.zip 11 points 5 months ago (1 children)

They fell victim to one of the classic blunders!

Never ally yourself with a spoiled, entitled, narcissistic trust fund man child?

Wait so he's a sovereign citizen but so involved in us politics that he decided to raid the capitol? I don't understand how these guys can pick and choose which parts of being in a country they want

They're the little kid who thinks is always right, but grown up.

[–] GladiusB@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago

Apparently it's gobblygook to me

I hope one day someone releases the transcript and does a law review on it and tears his arguments to pieces

and does a law review on it and tears his arguments to pieces

I'm not sure there's much value in that.

Simplifying things, law is one of the two:

  1. Just what it is in fact. A result of the balance of power in the society. No hard connection to justice or what is right. Then sovereign citizens are of course wrong, only they are not using this meaning.

  2. Some system which allows anybody to defend themselves when they are right (that meaning personal, pun intended, sovereignty as in never being obliged to obey anyone), with them never owing anybody anything to which they hadn't agreed, etc. Irresponsible people often say this is what law is, not really meaning it. Some gullible people either believe that or think that it should be that. The former are sovereign citizens, the latter are ancaps and other natural law proponents.

For 1 - he doesn't care, for 2 - you can't.

I sympathize with that subculture, it's definitely nicer than "citizens of USSR" in Russia or "citizens of the Reich" in Germany.

As a mod any social media post is fine by me.

Gobbledygook does not appear anywhere in the declaration of independance therefore I hold myself in contempt of these proceedings

Love the America you hate. Because the America you hate is the only reason you are still alive.

  • The judge's brain, probably.
[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

I would have preferred a rope, but 87-months will do well enough.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 5 months ago

I love it when judges call them on this shit. There was a ruling where a judge made a point of how THE CAPITALIZATION OF WORDS somehow was supposed to be special, but it's not.
