Damn that sucks for Logan. Looking at only this race, from a purely logical perspective, I do get it. But even if we take empathy out of the equation, I'm not sure if this would be the optimal move when you take the rest of the season into account. Showing confidence in Logan and letting him have a go surely would help him a lot, and might increase his performance over the rest of the season. Especially if he does perform decently. By giving his car to Albon they so raise their potential for points, but might absolutely shatter Logan's confidence and motivation.
Every point counts, especially now that the top 5 teams are quite a bit ahead of the rest. But damn, that's brutal
On the other hand they need to start showing him he needs to start delivering. Obviously this is quite drastic but it comes down to results and money. It is after all why they don't have a spare chassis.
Sargeant's contract aside. Is there a precedent for this?
The only similar-ish case I can remember is Spa 1998. Several teams (Tyrrell, Arrows, Prost) had both of their cars involved but only one spare car per team available for the restart.
I also vaguely remember that at some point during the 50s a driver gave his car to his teammate during the race (driver switches were allowed back then).
But those are nowhere near the current situation. It's really bonkers. If Williams isn't confident that SAR can perform well then why did they sign him at all?
