Finland: Windows95man Keeps His Name for Eurovision But Outfit Change Required (eurovoix.com)

Finnish media reports that Windows95man will be able to perform under their existing name at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.

The Finnish representative will not be required to change their name for Eurovision 2024 according to Ilta-Sanomat. There had been discussions regarding whether Windows95man would be required to change his name due to brand advertising being in breach of the contest rules.

However, Windows95man will be required to make changes to the outfit he will wear on the Eurovision stage. The Microsoft Windows 95 operating system logo will need to be adapted for the performance, Teemu Keisteri commented:

Microsoft Finland itself commented on the use of Windows 95 (https://archive.is/7md8S, in Finnish):

"It's fun and great, what else can I say! The performance was absolutely hilarious and we are very happy about it", Pekka Isosomppi, Director of Communications at Microsoft Oy, commented to Iltalehti on Monday morning.

"Windows 95 is cultural history. You can treat it like old memories. The artist communicates the ethos of the 90s in a retro way and does it in a really funny way", says Isosomppi. The communications director makes a comparison.

"This is a product that has been dead for quite some time. If you were driving a car from the '50s in a stage show, would you ask Ford if it could be there? The '50s car is part of that era and a symbol of that era – in the same way that Windows 95 is a symbol of the '90s", he argues.

The denim egg will be on stage in Sweden, but revisions will be made to the egg to make it safer for the contest with the inclusion of a safety bar.

I am eagerly awaiting this year’s contest. I do not typically watch, I just check out all of the acts and then watch the top act’s performances. I think I will try and watch this year.
