MODERATORS

“Men are that they might have joy.”

Have you ever noticed that when you’re enjoying yourself, it’s probably a sin?

Sex, drugs, rock ‘n roll… Normal things that normal people enjoy, alcohol in moderation, R-rated movies, chatting with friends at the pub, having a hobby, women having a career.

And Mormons are told that we’re never doing enough church stuff. Read scriptures more, pray more, fast more, do more family history, go to the temple more, spend more time in your calling, more home and visiting teaching. It’s not only exhausting, it’s dour.

its not the documented liar that farcically created the entire 'religion'?

That was my thought too. If i remember correctly, he inherited a rock farm, realized that being a rock farmer fucking sucks, so he started a con instead, and it somehow turned into him being head of a religion that conveniently enough enabled him to do whatever he wanted.

Source: Last Podcast on the Left. Their series on mormonism is fantastic.

Fair enough. What I pointed out has more to do with a lack of internal consistency. But the more I think about it, the more I realize there is very little internal consistency to begin with.

no religion has consistency. if you actually look at any religion with logic and critical thinking the entire house of cards breaks down.

they are, at their hearts, just cults with volume.

I think perhaps the worst lie in Mormonism is "even if it's not true it still makes good people"

You make an excellent point. My wife knows I don’t believe. She told me that she will continue to attend because it’s good to be around good people who are really trying to be good. As opposed to everyone else, I guess?

As I’ve gotten to know more non-Mormons, I’ve noticed that the difference between Mormons and other people is that there is no difference. They are exactly the same. Some are nice, some aren’t; some are honest, some aren’t; some are good people, some aren’t. Being Mormon has nothing to do with it.

I don't know about all that!

  • Playing a retro video game
  • Hiking at a state park
  • Watching the sunrise
  • Enjoying a good cup of coffee.

Ah, you got me!
