I am interested in working on ONLY THINGS THAT MATTER that’s why I’m looking to create a social media app to compete with TikTok and Instagram.

[–] Potatos_are_not_friends@lemmy.world 35 points 10 months ago

That typically is code for “Things that matter TO ME, the coked up owner, manager, idea man.”

It means be prepared for a 4am phone call hour-long rant about why you used indigo instead of light purple on the design that they signed off on, ensure network stability on AWS for a delusional 1+billion concurrent user signup, and since you have the knowhow, help his kid’s iPad connect to the office Wifi.

If it’s 100x harder and more stressful than any other jobs, would it be fair to assume they’d pay about 100x the market rate?

$80-$120k is like mid-level. My expectation of devs at the mid-level is that I can give you a project that you might be successful, you might not, but that’s okay. You’re also not in critical systems or a first responder, because that’s a senior level position.

“compete with Instagram and TikTok”

LMAO imagine being this delusional.

[–] Ledivin@lemmy.world 16 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Any social media app competes with Instagram and TikTok. It’s not a fair fight, and nobody will ever hear the new apps name, but they are technically still competing.

[–] confused_code_monkey@lemm.ee 6 points 10 months ago

But almost NO new social media apps will be the first part of that same sentence, “This app will be #1 in App Store by summer time”. I agree with “delusional” being an appropriate word for this job posting.

You’d think they’d at least say you’d be rewarded for your hard work with large stock options and bonuses or something, but they just say “shaping the future” and “gaining skills”.

You are not seeing the big picture here. You should think more like billionaire investor Bill Ackmann.

[–] lars@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 10 months ago

I fucking lost it right here. Every single sentence is a red flag. But Bill fucking Ackman lmaoooooo
