6th night without power. Iโ€™m so over it. Anxious AF.

[โ€“] kudra@aus.social 5 points 9 months ago

@Reonn @CEOofmyhouse56 crap, what area are you in? I checked the outages list and it was still huge yesterday. I'm in a rural area that gets regular outages, but they are usually resolved within about 12 hours. But the amount of trees down, damaged or basically exploded on the drive out from the city today was... exceptional. I'm not surprised it's taking them quite a while to rectify all the issues.

On a train. There is an over abundance of short shiny dresses and facial glitter. Must be a Spice Girl around somewhere.

Please count how many times the word literally you hear and report back.

TW bloodBloody got a blood nose on the bus. Nobody around. I carry a gigantic arse backpack around with me which contains everything I could ever need while on a trip, except, crucially, tissues...

Managed to get it under control with a head tilt though, but my face and hands didn't fare too well without tissues, and I probably looked like either a murderer, or a murderee. Ended up having to rip pieces off of a letter I forgot to take out of my bag and wet them with my water and use that to try and clean myself up a bit. Absolutely looked like a crackhead in the process, half surprised I didn't get kicked off

Finally got off at a train station and started trying to properly clean up and apparently bumped my nose a bit too much so the whole thing started again. No fucking toilet paper. Sink that's permanently stuck on really hot for some reason. I heard a line forming and ended up hobbling down the stairs to the customer service desk while holding my nose and looking at the roof, and asked the PSOs for some tissues, they didn't have any but said there was a better toilet down the end of that platform which did have toilet paper. Managed to get it under control but what a wild adventure. Also stole some toilet paper should my nose break on the way back

No clue what caused it, it just decided to happen at the most inconvenient time possible๐Ÿ™ƒ

Edit: rewrote half my comment because Jesus Christ I wasn't making any sense at all

To do list for tomorrow (putting it here so I am obligated to follow-through):

  • Call Tafe and finish up enrolment
  • speak to GP for new BC script
  • eat lunch (important!!)
  • play with/nap with cat

Some sad news. A neighbour found the corpse of Mr Magpie. He and Mrs Magpie lived in the big gum tree in the roundabout at the end of the street and raised several families there. Presumably the hot windy day last week knocked him off his perch.
However, in slightly more cheerful news, Mrs Magpie fronted up for feeding time at another neighbour's place this morning, bringing another Mrs Magpie with her. Very very Thornbury.

I'm out adventuring and listening to my audiobook. Embrace the majesty of the mighty vanilla slice. Also, this is the very first photo I've taken with this new phone (loaned from Microsoft).

Rightio.
Shopping is done. House is clean from top to bottom. Washing is done. Cat is brushed and fed.

Time for some reading in bed, and Mass Effect 3 later on.

I forget how great I feel when the house is spotless. Feels so peaceful.

Making myself throw out all my pc part boxes, I don't know why my lizard brain is so obsessed with keeping them all. Have also organised all my little screws, cables, and whatnots into labelled parts tubs.

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 5 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Good work.

If you need something else to organise I have an extensive button collection you could make a start on.

Itโ€™s been sometime since I was in a bar with carpet quite this sticky ๐Ÿ˜

[โ€“] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 5 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I miss the sticky carpet at the Park View band room in the 70s and 80s. Whole ecosystems lived in it. And were on the brink of spontaneous evolution into consciousness. Then pokies came to Victoria and they closed off the band room and tore up the carpet. The spirit of bar room scientific endeavour was snuffed out in an instant.

[โ€“] Catfish@aussie.zone 7 points 9 months ago

There are no polite words to be said about pokies

just woken up from impromptu nap

I must have been tired

[โ€“] StudChud@aussie.zone 7 points 9 months ago (2 children)

So many Taylor Swift fans, the tram was packed as. Wtf. A group of them looked at me and laughed? I'm not in HS anymore, their giggles mean nothing lol

[โ€“] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 8 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Don't move. Swifties can sense movement but not sound.

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 6 points 9 months ago

Is that wise though? You might get slapped with a friendship bracelet.

[โ€“] StudChud@aussie.zone 5 points 9 months ago (2 children)

I stayed very still and listened to my Finnish rap in rebellion haha

It's so weird when the Teenage Mean Girl phase persists past high school.

I am so sick of my toxic boss. I just want to quit my job but i'm not having much luck on the job hunting front. I feel so trapped and I don't know what to do. maybe i should just off myself. honestly feels like the only way out at the moment after months of trying to find something else.

[โ€“] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 9 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Please don't. Have a big glass of water. If you can go outside right now and stand in the sun. Close your eyes an breathe. Name all the things you can hear.

List some things you can do to help minimise the fallout from your job (even minor like make a good lunch to look forward to each day). This is how it is right now but it will not be forever.

[โ€“] Outlier1031@aussie.zone 7 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Thank you i'm at the laundrette right now doing my washing now and the sunshine on the walk over was pretty good. I also have left over spag bol to look forward to for dinner. Sorry for the ideation. My boss just triggered me today and it cemented for me how she has absolutely zero empathy. And i just feel very done.

[โ€“] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 7 points 9 months ago

No need to apologise. Better to vent it out somewhere. Good luck!

[โ€“] Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone 7 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

Hey there. I understand how you feel, I promise I do.

I know things feel really bad right now, but it's not always like this. As the commenter below suggested, get out of the house for a bit and go for a walk to clear your head. Maybe listen to some music.

I went through the toxic boss thing recently, to the point where I almost threw away my 8 years of sobriety. I'm also looking for work and have had little luck so far as well.

Things will get better. No one gets to make you feel that way. Fuck them.
Do your best to switch off when you're at work. Nod and smile, and keep looking for a new job.

Something will come through soon. You got this!

Well, it wouldn't be a train trip if I didn't get abused by someone at least once. I'm not sure what he was going on about, all I caught was him calling me fat or some variation of that about a dozen times and then screaming at me about white people and slavery. Not sure what I did exactly, I was just crossing the road and he started yelling at me. When I ignored him enough he started going off on the next closest people who seemed to be copping it harder than I did

The tram is about to come so I assume he's about to leave, buuut for now I'm holed up in the corner of a KFC, which probably wouldn't make him very happy

[โ€“] StudChud@aussie.zone 5 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I was coming home from work one day last year, and this old white dude was screaming racist profanities to a SE Asian couple and their young kids. I got between them and told him he was less of an Aussie then them, and how their English was better than his. He almost punched me but instead realised I am a chick and said he wouldn't punch a girl. I said he's never even touched a girl hence why he's so mad lol.

So not recommend doing this, you did the right thing. Anything else (including what I did) is likely to earn you a punch to the face. It's okay, just remember there is nothing wrong with you, it's 100% their problems.

Two stunning afternoons up in the hills and watched a House episode where a guy had his hand amputated.

Man, I have never been more grateful for my hands. Like I felt so so so unbelievably overwhelmed with gratitude it was kind of surreal.

Hope everyone has had an awesome weekend!

Back from the other side of the city. As soon as I was on Chapel St waiting for tram, some middle aged lady asked me from a ciggie. Every time I'm there, which isn't often, I get asked for a smoke without fail.

Every street and suburb in Melbourne has a culture; I love this city.

I have been relatively pain free all day and unsurprisingly spent most of it sleeping

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I have decided to try cutting out caffeine for a while. I've been reducing my intake for a couple of weeks, with the intention that after today I will not have any more. The temptation to have another coffee is very real.

[โ€“] Duenan@aussie.zone 4 points 9 months ago

You've succeeded where Iโ€™ve failed.

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 4 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (3 children)

I've asked the man to keep it down out there while he mows because I'm about to have a nap. AITA.

[โ€“] Force_majeure123@aussie.zone 6 points 9 months ago

YTA. Nap at a reasonable hour. Sunday afternoon is for chores

Question?

Are there screaming meth addicts in the middle class and posh suburbs too?

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 9 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I presume there are screaming addicts in all suburbs. The posher the suburb the higher the likelihood they are screaming inside large properties where they are not as noticable. Possibly they are also more likely to get addicted to classier drugs with less adulteration, leading to a lower scream to addict ratio.

[โ€“] StudChud@aussie.zone 7 points 9 months ago

Omg this made me laugh

leading to a lower scream to addict ratio.

[โ€“] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 5 points 9 months ago (2 children)

A lot fewer, but yeah I does happen. I am also noticing more rough sleepers, more camped vans, and general mental health distress ( not necessary meth heads but people not having a great time of it) round here.

(Source: I live in a previously working class but now posh area. )

Mildly peeved that the bus driver blew right past the stop I was at, ignoring everyone who was waiting there. Had to wait half an hour for the next one.

But got some fudge, and found out that the brand I usually get shut up shop some months ago.

It's been one of those ripple days, where everything seems to be going up and down all at once.

Also anyone know any good place to look into getting a second hand bike (and a good place to ride in)? My current one is a bit knackered, and wondering whether it was worthwhile fixing it, or just replacing it completely.

I'm familiar with the bike shed at Ceres, but that's about it.
