Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!

How voting works:

Vote the opposite of the norm.

If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.

Guidelines:

Tag your post, if possible (not required)

  • If your post is a "General" unpopular opinion, start the subject with [GENERAL].
  • If it is a Lemmy-specific unpopular opinion, start it with [LEMMY].

Rules:

1. NO POLITICS

Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.

2. Be civil.

Disagreements happen, but that doesn’t provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...

Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.

5. No trolling.

This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.

Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/

MODERATORS

They don't even give a TLDR in the post body .

EDIT : My unpopular opinion is really unpopular hehe.

EDIT: To all the people saying lemmy and reddit are link aggregators that is not true they are also web forums .

Its a link aggregator, links get aggregated

Theres a bunch of original content if you look at the right communities. For example !foodporn@lemmy.world

[–] morrowind@lemmy.ml 9 points 7 months ago

yeah lmao, the whole point is to bring in stuff from the rest of the web. Lemmy is not a platform for content, it's for aggregation and comments

[–] qooqie@lemmy.world 20 points 7 months ago

That’s how Reddit was for the majority of its life. This isn’t strange, the stuff that made people stay during that time is the conversations you can have in comments

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 18 points 7 months ago

Yeah Lemmy is a link aggregator, like reddit

I have aldready made a few OC's

[–] remotelove@lemmy.ca 4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

It depends on the community and what your interests are, TBH. There are even instances that have their own core topics, actually.

OC on most of the communities is still growing and it's going to take a while to be at the level Reddit is at.

As far as the TLDR issue, there are bots that do a fairly good job of summarizing websites. I am surprised you haven't seen them.

I am too suprised i have never seen those bots

At complete random, I found a post where the AutoTLDR bot showed up: https://lemmy.world/post/11737650 (that is an odd post and didn't fully load when I clicked that link. The bot is there, though.)

I believe that particular bot needs to be invited to the community though. Some news communities use that bot, some other bots will also TLDR their own posts.

Funny enough, I clicked on about 4 different OC posts while looking for AutoTLDR....

Tldr should really be mandatory for any link. Doubly so for video or audio content.
