It was fun at the time but also felt like a tech demo for the GameCube more than a fully fleshed out game.

It really did feel that way, still kinda does. But I love it to bits
Yeah, that's what I thought too. I don't want to be to harsh on it since it's also the first in the series, but there are definitely some weird choices from the game design perspective I'd say. Still, it layed the groundwork for Luigi's Mansion 2 and 3, which I both really like.
I guess it's still worth a try if one is interested in the series's origin.
I loved it. The music is soooo good.
Now that's an interesting take. Honestly, most of the music didn't really stick with me. That's probably because there simply aren't that many acutal songs in this game. Though I must say that Luigi's Mansion does have some interesting sound design.
I have Luigi's humming etched into my memory permanently. Also the way he shoults Maaaariiiooooooo! I'm pretty sure I'm biased but this game is just so good.
yeah that humming is definitely a nice detail. And for the "M-ma-ma-marioo?" and "Mariooooooooooo?" you always hear when you press A when you're still to far away from a door, yeah im not gonna forget that either haha.
I haven't played it, but I intend to do it in my Nintendo Switch :)
I think you are doing great playing it with original hardware and that lovely CRT TV!
Oh, are you going to play 3 or the upcoming port of 2? I think both are awesome games, but 3 is definitely the best one, I'd say. Have fun!
Also thank you, playing on CRTs is always a nice experience.
Just the sheer mention of the game makes me hear the sounds of falling coins and gems and a sucking Poltergust play in my head, proceeded by the jingle of picking up a key!
But yeah, I can see where the game is flawed, but I can't help but love it as though the flaws weren't there!
