Normally I don't have much time to watch movies, and for the occasional one Netflix is good enough. But once a coupple of years there is a specific one I want to see which is not on Netflix.

Normally I can find it on ThePirateBay, but sometimes it's offline.

So my question is, how to get a movie like "Sing 2" in a easy way like I used on TPB now in 2023.

If you wanna go really casual, there's sites like https://movie-web.app which will let you stream most movies in decent quality.

hdtoday.cc bflix.gg fmovies.to

What I learnt the other day from this community.

[–] Caravaggio@feddit.nl 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

This. You'd be surprised how much good stuff you can find on those and similar services. Once I learned about them, I practically stopped torrenting.

[–] Ilandar@aussie.zone 12 points 1 year ago

The quality is terrible, though. All of these sites rely on the same bitrate starved YTS rips. It's why torrenting remains popular for people who care about presentation, because you have so many more options than just the absolute bare minimum.

[–] kostel_thecreed@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 year ago

And how ass the buffering can be at times too. I've switched to stremio for the family, and torrent movies I want to see offline.

[–] tun@lemm.ee 9 points 1 year ago

It is a hosted version of open source movie-web app

https://github.com/movie-web/movie-web

[–] kratoz29@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

This is stupidly easy, says someone who likes to watch quick and easy stuff with Stremio and Torrential.

I use torrents-csv https://torrents-csv.ml/ and find the movie I want and download it. I'm like you, I hardly watch movies, this is the most seamless way for me to do it.

[–] kek@discuss.tchncs.de 28 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Would recommend Stremio with Torrentio plug-in, works great on Google TV

[–] atlasraven31@lemm.ee 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Once set up, it's the laziest way to watch something. Torrentio does have an issue finding torrents for specials and other extra video content.

[–] sylverstream@lemmy.nz 7 points 1 year ago (3 children)

With realdebrid it's even better :) But yes special content is hard to find, I still have to revert back to usenet for some content.

[–] nevernevermore@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago (5 children)

well with premiumize it's even better :) they cache usenet and DDL links too. I've had way more success with obscure titles on there than i did with realdebrid

[–] kostel_thecreed@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

More information about this premiumize? First time hearing about it.

[–] sylverstream@lemmy.nz 5 points 1 year ago (6 children)

I did some research and found mixed reviews. It's also quite expensive. I also tried Uncloud via Onion but the couple of NZB's I tried failed, probably out of retention, even though they were <1000 days old

Instead, I signed up for Easynews for US$36 for 1 year (via here instead of US$10 / month. Then I installed this Stremio plugin. Some of my shows were not on RD, but I can find them on Easynews. And the good thing is that I can also use it with my *arr + nzbget set up :)

@Black_Gulaman@lemmy.dbzer0.com you may be interested in this as well.

Go on, this interests me. as an RD user, I'm always interested in knowing that there is a better service.

yts . mx

everything is organised great

no cam bullshit, everything is bluray or webrip

i think movies there are a bit compressed, but personally i dont even notice it

[–] Apeeksiht@lemdro.id 10 points 1 year ago

a better alternative for new movies is psa. wf

their quality is exceptional with small size.

[–] kostel_thecreed@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)
  • I love yts because of the small sizes. I don't care about remuxes like the data hoarders in this community.
[–] Ilandar@aussie.zone 3 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Fair enough if you have no standards but don't pretend it's a choice between YTS and remuxes with nothing in-between. There is a very noticeable increase in quality just going from YTS to anything slightly larger.

I use torrent galaxy, that seems to work pretty well.

Qbittorent to get the thing you want. Recommended to get a VPN while doing so.

Dump the file into a flash drive and plug into a TV. Or setup a shared network drive. Or set up a Plex server with a basic Music/TV/Movie folder structure , have Plex scan it, and stream like your other streaming apps.

[–] jeena@jemmy.jeena.net 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Once I have downloaded it I can play it in VLC on my computer and choose the cromecast as the renderer which works great, the only thing not working are the subtitles.

[–] Notnotmike@beehaw.org 3 points 1 year ago

Definitely would second Plex. Previously I just had an external hard drive with my library on it but that isn't as accessible.

With Plex, you can easily get started just installing it on a personal computer and let it grow over time. I had mine on my personal computer for years before recently upgrading to a NAS and it's top tier. Makes streaming to any device effortless and helps you organize your library

This thread has been the first time I've been downvoted for a good faith comment I made lol

[–] nonearther@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 year ago (3 children)

If you've an option to install android apps, then OnStream is a good option.

Second option is HDO.

They generally have 1080p videos, but can also have CAM prints.

In my country torrent sites are blocked, so I use a search plugin for qBittorrent to find Linux ISOs. I don't quite remember which one I use or how I installed, but it was quite simple. Google is your friend.

[–] kniescherz@feddit.de 10 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Make sure to use a vpn when your country cares about this stuff. Its not fun to pay 800€ for one episode of the fucking walking dead. (Germany)

[–] 100794@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I heard Germany is way too aggressive with this. I wonder what will happen if I were to travel to germany and download copyrighted material on my mobile data

Why in the ass would you need a plugin for downloading Linus ISOs which are free and non-illegal

[–] kniescherz@feddit.de 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oftentimes anything copyrighted like warez, music and movies are called 'linux isos' to hide the fact that you are doing something shady.

Like: "I got a NAS with 20TB of Linux Isos to enjoy."

[–] 100794@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh. Okay good to know. But wouldn't it be redundant to use something like this here in a piracy sub

[–] kniescherz@feddit.de 6 points 1 year ago

Sure. Buts its also an inside joke.

Doesn't 1337x.to work for you instead of tpb?

[–] jeena@jemmy.jeena.net 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ah didn't know that, will check it out, thanks!

[–] LastYearsPumpkin@feddit.ch 7 points 1 year ago

I know you said it was for movies, which I use them for as well, but there was a recent scandal with 1337 and malware in Baldars Gate 3.

Downloading movies is pretty safe, but if you decide to branch out, I'd be a little hesitant to use 1337 for anything else.

(Make sure you’re doing this all behind a VPN)

I don’t personally trust the free streaming sites. I torrent the bare mp4 or mkv file because I can just play it on my own computer without worrying about malware or being tracked.

There are multiple mirrors for The Pirate Bay, just search it on your favorite search engine and they should come up. At least one of them always works. There’s also sites like 1337x, among other free trackers. (RIP RARBG, you’ll always live in our hearts)

There’s also private trackers that are a lot easier to get into than others.

[–] user224@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 1 year ago (6 children)

If you don't need to download it, there's himovies.sx. There used to be option to download, but maybe they had some issues with that.

I think the mega thread is a good place to start, but have checked out x1337 for movies
