I don't use them personally, but I've seen people use them well with snipers at very long range. I think you're right though that in a mid range engagement you're better off using a different attachment

I've not experimented with them much, but I didn't find much benefit for my play style. I think a lot of attachments would benefit from a bit of an overhaul!

Used them slightly but I think until they tweak the long range scope glint, they won't see much use.
