I'm trying to backup a set of old CD ROMs. Initially, I tried to use the built-in Disk Utility tool from macOS, but since it failed, I searched on this subreddit for recommendations, and I found Roadkil Unstoppable. So, I gave it a try too.

Unfortunately, both of them failed. But I wonder if my external CD ROM reader is the root of the issue since it starts a weird sound. And I was forced to restart my computer to (safely?) eject the CD.

Here's the moment that Roadkil's Unstoppable stuck.

Can the root of the issue be my CD ROM reader? It's new since I bought it from Amazon recently.

If yes, can someone recommend me one better? Or something else that I can try to do to preserve these images? There is no backup for them on Internet Archive, and I would like to save them.
