His face creeps me out so much. I usually try to attack the policies and not the person but it is just too much for me.

It’s like if Jason Bateman was cast in an oddball version of Batman where the Penguin was actually Isaac Asimov.

another clown leading the world to fascism.

Every time a post about this guy comes up people start commenting like they know anything about Argentine politics.

The previous party (and only other option) was paying off IMF’s debt with money lended from China. There were printing money like there is no tomorrow. There were tight controls on the prices of everything. All while spending like crazy. Basically, they took all the money they could from every possible way.

Argentina needs drastic reforms and costs cutting. No wonder US and the IMF are applauding Milei’s plan.

More people ITT should get their first word asses up for a bit and take a look at the reality of our country instead of blindly hating on the new right winger. He is far from perfect, but also he’s the best we can produce, period.

Just because the other guys suck, doesn't make this guy ok. Or not a fascist.

[–] ANIMATEK@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Choosing the lesser evil is a reality for Argentinians.

I am curious about you saying he is a fascist. Why exactly? Look up that definition before answering.

But again, what would you know speaking from your comfortable first world chair. The guy is not great by any means, I even would agree with you that he is not “ok”. But he is the best we’ve got. The other side is worse, nothing we can do about it.

[–] prole@sh.itjust.works 0 points 11 months ago

But he is the best we’ve got.

Ok. How about we meet here again in 2 years and see where you stand then?

[–] SuddenDownpour@sh.itjust.works 5 points 11 months ago

No wonder US and the IMF are applauding Milei’s plan.

This is very much not a good thing in my book. The IMF has a historical record of always recommending austerity policies that always fail to let the country staying afloat.

Robin Williams had love in this eyes. Here I see only pure evil and madness

TLDR:

The Ministry of Culture (and a few more: Social Development, Education, Women, Labor) will all get merged into a new one called Ministry of Human Capital.

[–] ninjan@lemmy.mildgrim.com 30 points 11 months ago (2 children)

This feels like it's going to end up as Anarcho-Capitalisms Cuba. Touted as proof that it works by supporters and as proof it doesn't work by detractors. I hope the Argentinian people come out of this ahead, or at the very least not even worse off.

[–] Renacles@discuss.tchncs.de 32 points 11 months ago

It's going to be a fucking mess.

[–] shortwavesurfer@monero.town 8 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Hard to be much worse off than over half the population living in poverty and using the black market to get basic things. In Europe and the United States, the black market is where criminals sell drugs. In Argentina, the black market is where everybody sells everything. Drugs or not.

[–] Eldritch@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

I don't know about that. Capitalism with minor restrictions and major corruption are largely to blame for it. Taking away minor restrictions and just leaving the capitalism and corruption to their own devices, really only can end one way.

[–] ninjan@lemmy.mildgrim.com 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, I know, which is why I fully understand chosing this guy over literally their prior finance minister. It's pretty much "change nothing and hope it improves" vs "blow it all up and hope his ideas work half as well as he thinks they will".

[–] shortwavesurfer@monero.town 2 points 11 months ago

If I remember correct, the saying is something like an idiot does the same things over and over again and expects different results. Sometimes you just have to blow something up and start again.

On the chopping block is the Argentine Ministry of Culture, along with the ministries of Health, Labor, Social Development, and Education

Feel like leading with the Mjnistry of Culture being cut over anyone of these to be odd.

[–] meeeeetch@lemmy.world 23 points 11 months ago

Source appears to be called 'Art News', so they probably have a particular interest in arts and culture.

[–] Pregnenolone@lemmy.world 19 points 11 months ago (2 children)

lol dude is that was he looks like? Jesus what is it with electing the weirdest looking cunts on the planet?

[–] tmijail@lemmy.world 13 points 11 months ago (1 children)

In Argentina, photographers usually try to get the most unflattering pictures of politicians so they can sell them to newspapers ideologically opposed to said politicians.

That's not what's happening here. He really does look like that. You should see what he looks like when he's posing for a picture.

[–] prole@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 months ago

Holy shit, talk about crazy eyes. Terrifying.

[–] Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 1 points 11 months ago

I can't help but think of Jekyll and Hyde when I see his face.

Are you talking about the fruit or bird?

[–] cashews_best_nut@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

The bird! The fruit can't type.

[–] qaz@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Of course, my bad

[–] deleted@lemmy.world 9 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I’m interested to see how his crazy reforms would turn out.

[–] veganpizza69@lemmy.world 22 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

educationally for those watching the disaster from a distance

[–] nexusband@lemmy.world -4 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (2 children)

Probably better than many think. While privatizing critical infrastructure is a very bad thing to do (and I think education is one of those infrastructures), other things are in dire need of reforms in Argentina.

[–] GissaMittJobb@lemmy.ml 5 points 11 months ago

The correct response to having shot yourself in the foot is not to start shooting yourself in the leg instead.

Argentina has problems, but these are not the solutions to these problems. Not at all.

[–] deleted@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

The catch is privatization make profit a priority.

Sure, the previous government was corrupt but wasn’t infected with the infinite growth cancer.

[–] Erasmus@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Why does this guy look like a villain from Doctor Who?

[–] ours@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

Populist leaders around the World seem to be in a race for the wackiest hairstyle,
