The biggest problem here is the people who are convinced they know exactly who the "horrible" people are, and know a lot of people in every day life that would fit that category...

Usually it's just homeless people or people coded as homeless people

[–] CaptnNMorgan@reddthat.com -2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

That's a funny way to describe mental illness

[–] problematicPanther@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Not all mentally ill people are homeless and not all homeless people are mentally ill. It's a much more complex problem than that and it can't just be solved by chalking it up to being mentally ill.

Well you are technically right. The studies I found on Google say it's only about 20-25% and 4-6% of people who aren't homeless in the US.

However, my anecdotal experiences tells me just about everyone has mental health issues but 90% of them either don't realize it, won't admit it or it actually helps them. These studies are only as accurate as the honesty from the people who were questioned.

But the thing is "mental health issues" is such a broad fucking statement. You can be mentally ill and still be a completely functional member of society. You can also be mentally ill and be homeless. That doesn't mean it's not mental illness that causes it. It just depends on the specific illness and the severity of said illness. Some people make a ton of money from their illness and some others become addicted to drugs. It's a really broad fucking spectrum.

I also recognize that there are functional people that choose to be homeless because they like the lifestyle. But those people are so fucking rare and really shouldn't even be placed in the same category of people who didn't have the choice.

TL;DR

This isn't a summarization, but a question. If you believe someone can be "coded" to be homeless how is that not a mental illness?

Edit: parenting is also a huge factor but anyone with toxic parents knows that they contribute to mental illness as well.

i hadn't had my coffee yet and didn't realize you were talking about 'homeless coded', which i have no idea what it means. does that mean people who appear to be homeless?

[–] CaptnNMorgan@reddthat.com 1 points 11 months ago

I figured it means people who have the same mental shit homeless people have but maybe they have a support system so they aren't actually homeless because they have help.

Just go to a Republican rally in the US and dig in.

[–] SPRUNT@lemmy.world 15 points 11 months ago

Seriously! Republican conventions would be like Costco for a monster that only eats horrible people.

Honestly I could just drive around my area and wait until I find someone FaceTime-ing and driving. I see about three people doing it on the way home.

I don't care if it's stop and go traffic, you don't need to be on a video call while you're operating heavy machinery.

Or if you’re a lemmymonster, you just eat landlords.

Check out “Santa Clarita Diet”. Drew Barrymore’s character can only eat people and struggles with this exact topic.

[–] Stamets@startrek.website 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

That show is why I left Netflix to never return. You wanna take an acclaimed show and cancel it for no fucking reason after setting up a huge cliffhanger? Then eat my entire ass.

I want a self-awarewolf that seeks out rich criminals.

Westboro Baptist could sustain you for a while.

[–] rockerface@lemm.ee 5 points 11 months ago

Just find a job as a prison warden, it might not be a 100% guarantee, but a lot better chances. Even better if you eat the guards instead of the prisoners

[–] Something_Complex@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Bro had no imagination...easy.

1 you find news articles exposing awful people around.

2 break into jail, you can eat prisoners and cops

3 look up where Jeff bezzo's jet lands and wait there for him

[–] drmeanfeel@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Not to mention the tons of fashy militia meetups and compounds. Just put up fliers like "do you hate women? Call this number!"
