Although this is not a ton of competition, some is better than none at all.

This opens the door for more, as well. It means breaking the reliance on CUDA. Meta originally developed PyTorch and it's still a large contributor. This means more resources will go into open backends instead of CUDA.

First cousins once removed. Su is the daughter of Huang's first cousin.

Different cultures might define relationships differently, but in my home country, there is nothing "distant" about that.
