Paragons of Virtue Arrested

It's time to name and shame the self-proclaimed paragons of virtue. Keep it civil, though.

Stories are about those who have been placed in positions of trust, and then abused that trust.

Feel free to add stories of the self-righteous from other walks of life.

New rule: With regard to stories of particularly, but not only, female teachers sexually assaulting students. Any comments similar to "where were they when I was in school" will earn you the right to find another forum.

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis has decided to punish one of his highest-ranking critics, Cardinal Raymond Burke, by revoking his right to a subsidized Vatican apartment and salary in the second such radical action against a conservative American prelate this month, according to two people briefed on the measures.

Francis told a meeting of the heads of Vatican offices last week that he was moving against Burke because he was a source of “disunity” in the church, said one of the participants at the Nov. 20 meeting. The participant spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to reveal the contents of the encounter.

Too little, too late. There's much more that should and should have been dealt with if the organization wants a shred of my neutrality.

Wrong attitude to have. You're complaining about 2k years of institutionalism, and you're disappointed because there's finally someone taking a stand at the top. This progressive change is going to take time, well beyond our lifetimes. To quote, "it has to start somewhere. It has to start sometime. What better place than here? What better time than now?"

Look into the abuse he's personally swept under the rug to understand why I don't celebrate these bare minimum moves. It's not some ancient past I care about. I'm unsatisfied with the last 2 decades. Not good enough? We can shorten the window if you'd like.

I mean, I got the shit beat out of me in catholic school every day until I was about 7, and even i can recognize that this is good. But you go on ahead punishing the behavior you want to see and supporting the behavior you don't want to see and let's both find out how that works out for you.

Cool. Well looks like you've internalized the shame, just as they wanted you to. The factors that contributed to your abuse, and other abuse that continues today, haven't been addressed by the org in any honest way. This type of celebration serves as propaganda to keep their heat down. But I will never forget the injustices perpetrated against the voiceless, and will continue to hold this org to higher standards until an appropriate response is given, even if that means I will not be 'satisfied' as you imply. I don't need to compromise the value of human rights just to get to a state of some artificial inner peace.

I like this pope but he can’t erase the past. Cardinals like the idiot here have been the problem all along.
