They grew 'twenty percent' of their market share, which is a whopping 1%. Four out of 100 NEW phones is a pixel now. Considering pretty much the only options left to North America that aren't Apple and Samsung is basically Motorola and Google, I wouldn't consider this a win. I didn't even know tcl made smartphones and they're barely behind Google.

The graphic is not an exhaustive list of manufacturers though, there are more than the ones listed.
I just bought myself a pixel to replace my iPhone. So I guess I’m part of that growing trend. Personally the only thing that worries me is that I’ve heard the 7 and 7a have kind of crappy fingerprint detection, and I really would love to use it. But otherwise, I’m pretty excited for this!!
Welcome to the Pixel gang then! 😁
I’ve heard the 7 and 7a have kind of crappy fingerprint detection
I have a 7a and I haven't had any issues with fingerprint unlocking so far. The only times when it required me retrying many times was when my thumbs were wet but that's normal I guess.
That’s good to hear! I wanted the Coral 7a but they only had it in sky blue, so I got that one, which also looks pretty good.
If they want to get serious they better start accepting trade-ins for a lot more money just like Samsung does! Have a pixel 7pro looked at the trade-in value for the new flip phone and is pitiful. Samsung is offering double !
Guess I'll just have to keep using my favorite phone for a few more years then 🙂
None of my Pixels have lasted especially long. I'm finally done with them when I get my next phone, unless they start making small phones again.
I've been a pixel user since the week they came out. My launch week pixel lasted nearly 5 years before the microphone gave out and I went to a 4a. Still on the 4a and love it. Pixels are a perfect middle ground between iPhone and the full android experience of a Samsung flagship imo. Convenient to use, incredible software integration across the entire phone, and my 4a still has a 3.5mm jack which is a massive selling point for me. I intend to upgrade to an 8 when they launch if the rumors surrounding the introduction of a docking capability are true. Being able to set my phone down onto a dock and have it convert to a light desktop PC would be amazing. I know Samsung has Dex currently, but I'm really just not a fan of what Samsung does with their phones.
Why people buy apple products ? Is there any advantage of using apple over android.
Some people just love the brand. Say what you will about Apple as a company, but all of their products, and software suites work well together.
Some people also jumped on Apple in the early iPod days and just never left the ecosystem. They have years and years worth of experience in that ecosystem, and for them it may be too much to transition to something else, say Google.
It's the same, but in reverse, for Android users.
There's also the "indoctrination factor"; family members passing down either platform to new generations, or kids in school having peers from a different ecosystem.
I've been on Android since the beginning (and PalmOS and Microsoft phone for the 5 mins when it was pretty good). I'm finally going to Apple. Google is a smoking crater of a disaster of a company, burning itself to cinder in order to wring out a little more earnings for investors because there will never be a good idea in that company again. Just like Facebook. Just like Reddit. Just like Sammy.
Do no evil. lol imagine. Google is among the absolute worst.
Apple sucks. Tim Cook sucks. Turtlenecks should never be worn again. It took them a decade to make cut and paste work. And it's still better than the disaster Google + OEMs are at this point. Never thought I'd say that. Still won't touch MacOS with a ten foot pole though. Trash.
yea im still pissed off about GReader. what
oh shit guys we haven't had a good idea in a decade what are we gonna do to make money oh lol just raise youtube prices and make each ad break like 10 mins great idea bob you saved the company for another fiscal quarter
Funny I'm not looking for a Larger Phone, I'm looking for something smaller. And then a friend mentioned The Light Phone (https://www.thelightphone.com/), and I'm thinking about getting one.
I think that's "a bit" off-topic, as that doesn't seem to be even an Android phone, but
It will never have social media, clickbait news, email, an internet browser, or any other anxiety-inducing infinite feed.
Yeah... if that's your goal then a Nokia 2660 Flip gets you that for much cheaper.
That's an absolutely ass phone for 99.9% of phone users
So you're saying they could have 8M customers? INVEST!!!
If you only use your phone for calling and texting I could see that. But browsing any sort of media looks like that would be awful. Also because of the e-ink screen it is comically small for the size of the device.
Is that an e-ink screen? ..my God just get a pager and use payphones at that point man
I'm looking forward to the ASUS ZenFone 10.
What do you like about that one in particular? (https://www.asus.com/mobile-handhelds/phones/zenfone/zenfone-10/techspec/)
TBH, I've used an iPod Touch from gen 4-7, hitching on wifi for internet, telecom, etc. Cheap and easy. Tho' the crappy cam was always an annoyance.
I prefer Android and the ZenFone is small. I've got the hands of a 9-year-old, so the modern trend of massive phones does not work for me.
I prefer the smaller phones. That's why I stuck with the iPod Touch for so long.
