I think this might work, but repression / police investigation usually more intensive because blatantly breaking laws(hit and run a self amazon self service store while on camera) is deemed more dangerous than doing it in secret (standard shoplifting where it just gets filed under "shrink")
Also when doing this style of theft in other stores, people are usually able to get stuff that's worth more when looking strictly at the monetary value. Stealing 3 luxury bags can get you rent for a couple weeks/months, stealing groceries just gives you groceries
