I think this is a penalty purely because it's England that it's being given against.

[–] The_Cad@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Fucking ridiculous!!

[–] Responsible-Being872@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Wtf is rico supposed to do

[–] TaliLovesYou@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Wtf was that decision

[–] ostriike@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

thought this was a contact sport

[–] Maleficent_Resolve44@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Controversial decision that but at least pickford saved it. Good dive from him, unlucky with the rebound obviously but I have faith England will step it up a gear next half and win.

macedonia sucks. England needs better players lmao

[–] Imsosaaad@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

They clearly realised they fucked up on the Maguire call and had to make it up later

[–] 21otiriK@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Just how? He’s jumped and headed the ball. Not like he’s thrust an elbow, it’s just part of his jumping motion and his hand has flicked a bloke on his blindside. Genuine shocker that they’ve probably only given to compensate for the one they didn’t get earlier.

[–] AirshipHead@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

And the knee to Maguire's face is not a pen?

Ridiculous

[–] Weeklydaily@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

How is this harsh? Lewis heads the ball but the Macedonian player could still go for it if Lewis hadn't hit him in the face. While it was not intentional it doesn't matter

Makeup call of the century

[–] HelpMeSum1Help@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Super soft penalty, but then the other one was clear so…

[–] OneAnimeBatman@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Referees don't even know the rules at this point. It's not dangerous, reckless, or impeding so why is it a foul?

The Macedonian player has bought that by cheating and as always, been rewarded.

[–] Volotor@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Maguire is getting a boost because the people booing him are the opposition fans this time.

[–] digdoug0@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

...do people really think this is soft? He literally slaps the guy in the face.

This ref had a nightmare of a match

[–] AlexMcDaddyD@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

No idea why that was given

[–] danielge78@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

What was the infringement? i still dont know what they're calling the penalty for? That Lewis touched the striker?

[–] OkGunners22@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

It’s interesting how the pen shout for Maguire has half the comments here on Reddit, even though they are equally outrageous (bad) decisions.

If you’re going to whinge about reffing, do it consistently…

Seeing a lot of folk in this thread who have clearly never played the game. No intent in that whatsoever and to get that high up you need to use your arms like that for momentum. Rubbish call from the ref.

[–] wazzamatazz@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Intent has zero bearing on whether or not it was a foul. If a player mistimes a challenge and catches another player it's a foul even though they didn't mean it. If he has to use his arms to get that high he's leaving the referee with a decision to make if he then catches an opponent in the face.

You don't get a free pass just because you're young and it's your debut.

Don't agree with the penalty but even if it is how the hell is that a yellow

[–] WanderingArtist21@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Giving a yellow is the most laughable thing about this decision.

[–] wazzamatazz@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Conceding a penalty has been an automatic yellow card for the last few seasons.

[–] fbi-please-open-door@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

dies from peak fiction

[–] Professorchronic@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Ref fucked the Maguire decision to then give the softest penalty I've ever seen. Feel bad for Rico, not fair at all.

[–] Sente-se@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Any call against England or Arsenal always gets hilarious reactions on this sub, lmao. Sincerely don't give a fuck about your downvotes, but this is a clear foul and you wouldn't be complaining if it wasn't against England. It's a super unnatural arm movement from him that literally hits the opposing player in the face/eyes region and keeps him from continuing the play, and it was much rougher in real speed than in the slow-mo that is being shown here.

[–] Soren_Camus1905@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Ludicrous decision

[–] silver_medalist@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Caught him in the face. Yer man made a meal out of it tbh though.

[–] laserfaces@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

It's impressive that var has just given refs more opportunities to be terrible
