Start by not having an overtly racist league and culture fellas. No one feels sorry for you.

[–] DatOgreSpammer@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

racist culture

as if racism is exclusive to Spain and not a global issue

[–] michaelserotonin@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

i think real madrid & barcelona do just fine on player recruitment

[–] Southportdc@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Well one way to make people stop hating the Super League is to tell people it will hurt the English.

[–] MutedBar4@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

First thing : that looks like a bullshit argument. He uses wealth gap as an excuse but anyone who genuinely is concerned about wealth gap won't think of a Super League as a solution.

Second thing : Is it not the purpose of rules like financial fair-play to prevent those kind of thing to happen ? If it doesn't work, so do better rules.

This is incredibly short sighted and stupid. The fundamental problem is that the social, cultural and economic models we operate under produce monopolies naturally. It's ultimately irrelevant where you arbitrarily insert break points in the data set in order to declare the problem solved. At best you get a temporary reprieve. All you have to do is just wait a little bit and eventually the same environment produces the same results and you will again have monopolistic outcomes where a small subset of participants dominate.

The Superleague wants to replace the Champions League or domestic Leagues? I dont understand how they think will fit.

[–] tnarref@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Same would happen with a Superleague too, unless you make it so that Superleague clubs leave their national leagues altogether. Otherwise PL clubs will keep the financial advantage of having a more popular league worldwide over the rest of the Superleague competition. So say it out loud "we want to end national leagues because the PL is too dominant economically, we want to end the architecture club football has been built on over the past century because someone is doing better than us even though we tried really hard to gain a dominant position with massive tax breaks and loose regulation on debt for decades".

[–] Alia_Gr@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

well, 15 years ago it was the other way around

and I haven't seen the premier league sign ballon d'or winners or other key players yet from Barca or Real, like they signed key players from the best teams in England

[–] EasyDreda@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

But but but La Liga is the best league in the world.... Messi WAS there Ronaldo WAS there and 2 clubs competing for the title for 20 years with an occasional third party interference... Eat shit now if that is how arrogant you were in the past. What a boring shitty league to watch.

[–] Sir-Turd-Ferguson@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

The English are too many (said in thick Scottish accent)

[–] 1llseemyselfout@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

The PL being better is all down to PL teams willing to share more of the revenue with each other. The Spanish league allowed the top teams to take most of the leagues revenue and now instead of fixing that they want a Super League so those top teams can suck even more money out of the sport. The lack of awareness on why they’re not in as good of a position as the PL is astonishing to me. How do people this inept become presidents of anything.

[–] CuriousCall1846@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (2 children)

It's honestly baffling to me how their isn't a bigger uproar on this issue right now... English clubs are quite literally outspending other leagues by a metric of 2x or even more in some cases. Even smaller clubs from England are able to spend 40M to get the players they want and these are clubs that no one knows about outside of England.

Premier League fans are very vocal and quite hostile towards the Saudi League for the same reason because they are doing the same thing PL has been doing to other European leagues in the past decade.

I get that EPL came to the top with honest work and I applaud them for it but there comes a time when the gap is getting so enormous that the authorities need to step in and rectify it before it's too late. Because if it continues like this then there is no need for a Champions League because clubs from the other European Leagues would be minnows compared to what English clubs can do.. at that point, it would be better to simply make PL the new UCL then because they would collectively have more talent than the rest of Europe....

This is a terrible take. SL have mainly taken players at the end of their career.

Spain and Italy both had their spot at the top and failed to take advantage of it.

[–] CuriousCall1846@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I agree, but the PL fans are clearly not very open to SL. There has been numerous reports by English journalists on how the SL should be stopped before it starts getting younger talents from the PL so there is clearly very obvious concerns about it.

Spain and Italy, both took advantage of being at the top in their respective time. Italy was the best league in the world in the early 90s and Spain hit a peak during Ronaldo-Messi era. PL has hit it's peak too and is clearly attracting a wide range of talent right now. And good for them, but this time the gap is enormous, way more than it had been in the past, especially in terms of financial matters which is why it's concerning...

[–] Twindlle@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

We should be looking at a UEFA wide transfer fee and salary caps, not decimating national leagues. Losing top teams, would relegate all of those leagues to the same viewership as the second division.

SL is also terrible news for away going fans that couldn't afford a trip like that every week.

[–] daiwilly@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

well it might be better for you , but those below you in the pecking order will disagree. If you want better players, make your league more competitive, don't fuck off the smaller clubs in your country!!

[–] nananananaBETMAN@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

please shut up and go produce some movies

[–] 879190747@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (4 children)

But fuck every other league I guess? like can you spare a moment to think about all the other 50 or so UEFA leagues that would suffer from it?

[–] iVarun@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

That exists anyway with PL sucking talent for those 50 leagues hence it's not really a counter.

Super league opposition is a English/UK thing. People survey backs this up. The English fans seem to have a hostile attitude to it reaching nearing 92-95%, which is absurd in today's world to have such uniformity on a partisan subjective thing.

Italy, Spanish opposition varies around 50-60% at Most. Meaning it's easier to shift for them because their fans are already ready in enough numbers.

For the English this is like Hitler & then some if the numbers are a sign.

[–] nyamzdm77@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

As if Spanish, Italian, French and German clubs don't do the same thing lmao. Why do you think they're called the "big 5"?

The main proponents of the Super league aren't fans of Zaragoza, Cagliari, Reims, Werder Bremen or the like, they're fans of Madrid, Barca, Bayern and Juventus, aka big clubs whose hegemony at the top of the European game is being threatened by English clubs.

[–] Bigote_de_Swann@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

If there’s a relegation of 4 teams each year and a knock-out rounds with the rest of european teams I’m up for it. The bad press about the Super League was about being closed, but it’s not closed anymore iirc

[–] JPA-3@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

and even spanish teams. Look at Real Sociedad in champions this year, Girona who are currently 1st, Sevilla/Betis/Athletic who are normally 4-6 in la liga and can definitely compete in Europe, Osasuna last year reaching the cup finals etc etc

[–] Motherwhereartthou@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

It would be great for the Eredivisie. We will forever be in this perpetual no man's land without something like a Superleague. Dutch football fans being happy with having the smallest chance to escape the champions league group stages is just sad and I'd rather have the biggest, most corrupt and boring clubs join some superleague.

The Superleague is off course a joke, born out of greed and corruption, but let's not kid ourself; our current system has been ruined by greed and corruption already. Merit has no place in football anymore.

[–] AlwaysLate1@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

So Enrique Cerezo would support a UEFA wide wage ceiling ?

It could be something like 50 % of the revenue of the 40 or so, top grossing football clubs.

[–] Twindlle@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Something like this js much better than SL. Also, football money is not real, who decided that 100m players are worth that much? Put on a maximum transfer spend per window and the costs should drop as well.

[–] KnightofBiscuit@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

IT ISN'T GOING TO HAPPEN!

[–] nonhofantasia@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (3 children)

I love how the super league narrative has moved to an anti-premier league one, while half of the original super League member where super league clubs

[–] Djax99@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I mean that highlights his point if anything

[–] telcomet@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

It does but it also highlights how Atletico/Barça/Real Madrid are the activists for Atletico/Barça/Real Madrid, not La Liga

[–] tlst9999@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Super League to PL clubs: Splitters!!!

[–] Grytlappen@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Yes? That's his point. Remove the oil/billionaire owned clubs and the playing field becomes more even in Europe.

[–] inshamblesx@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago
[–] kalamari__@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

that only works when the super league plays without english clubs and without english clubs its not really a "super league", is it?

so, nothing will change with or without that league, besides all the usual big clubs getting richer and the gap between them and 99% of the rest of europe's football clubs is getting bigger.

[–] ff8god@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Seems like there already is a super league. The EPL.

[–] el_dude_brother2@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

The super league was always about taking away some of the cash away from the English league.

Was surprised the English clubs were so keen for it initially.

[–] Hugh_H0n3y@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I guess to be the president of Atleti you have to completely ignore the Galaticos era of Spanish football…

Honestly though, was this guy in a coma from 2013-2018? What an absurd statement

[–] KingKFCc@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Can someone hear make a superleague concept that could make sense? Like a nations league esc concept is the only thing that could make any sense

[–] altviewdelete@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Ohh boo hoo, just stop being shit maybe?

[–] HotPotatoWithCheese@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Why is it every time these fucks talk about the PL nicking all of the best players they never talk about Real and Barca having many of the best players in the world for the past 15 year. Look a bit closer to home pal.

[–] ajaxtipto03@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

He's just greedy and wants Super League money. It's not some diabolical plan to attack England. Chill.

[–] NormalAndy@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

As opposed to the Madrids taking all the best players from Spain back in the glory days? Nobody wins today except big money and they are just sore that their money isn't big enough anymore.

Lie down with dogs- you get fleas.

[–] Redbullsnation@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Fuck this guy

[–] fultirbo@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Eventually it will probably be English Premier League vs. European Super League

[–] Admiral_Atrocious@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Remember when Serie A and La Liga had the likes of Rijkaard, Van Basten, Romario, Stoijhkov, Michael Laudrup, Baresi, Platini etc?

[–] fifa129347@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

He’s right!

[–] Responsible_Ad1940@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

the spanish league fucked themselves for catering to barca and real madrid to decades. now they’re trying to ruin football bc the english league has a better model and organization. foh
