Lmao why are people downplaying girona when they are actually good?

[–] sx88@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (5 children)

This is the "small" team with the same owners of Man city?

[–] uchiha_boy009@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

And few City talents went there because Pep told them he’ll give them a chance in the future at City.

It’s a City feeder team basically.

[–] JootDoctor@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Douglas Luiz is one of those ex Girona players.

[–] pavanaay@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Looks like it is now going the other way...

[–] 13375p33k@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

There has never been a single Girona to City player promotion ever. It's always the other way around where a City academy player or CFG affiliate club player gets sent to Girona for professional minutes before getting sold

Girona is a CFG affiliate player mill, not a City feeder team

[–] biskutgoreng@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The player mill is leading La Liga right now, fuckin hell

[–] Impossible_Wonder_37@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yes so don’t mind the hilariously Sunday league practice situation, they are not a fairy tale. They’ve spent 25 mil of infinite oil money!!!!

[–] MrMojoRiseman@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yes but La Liga rules dont allow them to spend the way City spends.

Kombouaré must come to Girona

[–] Espantadimonis@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Unió de Pagesos, l'Associació de Naturalistes de Girona i Salvem Vilablareix Rural ja han denunciat el procés al Síndic de Greuges i a la mateixa Comissió Territorial d'Urbanisme, per irregularitats

Literal farmer's league

Is this Catalan? It looks like un mézcla de español y francés

[–] Sefean@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It looks like un mézcla de español y francés

That's the definition of Catalan

[–] AleixASV@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

As much as English is a mix of French and Dutch though

[–] AngryGooseMan@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Catalan pronunciation is nowhere like French pronunciation though. It's far more similar to Spanish than it is to French

[–] ataun94@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

People always say this but it's closer to Italian and Portuguese than French

[–] a_red_crayola@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

it looks and reads like some northern italian dialect mixed with spanish

[–] TheBatmanFan@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

With some turkish sprinkled in there for good measure I think (not apparent in the text above though, but look at the Cant del Barça or even the word Barça)

[–] DepletedMitochondria@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yep. Catalan is incredibly similar to Occitan

[–] thalne@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Girona's might is spiritual not material!

[–] e1a6@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Their new training facilities are looking good..

[–] Historical_Case_5245@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

how the hell are they first, what did I miss

[–] obbini@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Sheikh Mansour turn your attention down here

[–] manguito86@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Fuck Girona and what they stand for. Fuck all the clubs part of groups like the City group, Red bull, etc

[–] Arkin_Longinus@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Well fuck you too. It’s nice having competent people run your club.

[–] manguito86@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Well fuck you City boy.

I hope you like to bend over everyday to a sport washing propaganda machine.

Enjoy your plastic trophies

[–] I_have_no_ear@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I've been enjoying them for the last 10 years. I wouldn't change a thing

[–] manguito86@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Plastic speech 100%

[–] MrGraveyards@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

What a bs they didn't get that much money. Look at their players. Savio failed at psv. Blind was a benchwarmer and joined as a free agent etc etc.

They're just well run.

[–] manguito86@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Sure buddy, lets believe in that, just like UEFA believes City passed the FPF by having injection of millions in marketing sponsorships from newly created companies.

As an Ajax fan, you should be ashamed of yourself, this is an example how teams outside of the top5 are being pushed further and further away from the top of the pyramid due to actions outside of the pitch.

[–] MrGraveyards@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

We're still talking about Girona yeah?

[–] manguito86@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yes and it is sad you can't see the bigger picture.

[–] selbstbeteiligung@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Of course they are well run, not denying it. Still a shame for football. It~s like City

[–] Chilli__P@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Why are PSG opposing construction of a training ground for Girona?

[–] Space-Debris@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

...and are part of the Manchester City network of football clubs.

[–] eltee27@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] FluidLettuce2@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That's the club I knew and loved before they broke into La Liga and became kinda competent lmao

[–] Lone_Star_122@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

So is Girona's Cinderella year not just a product of them being a City Group owned team? Genuine question to those who know better, not an attempted slight against their success.

[–] mylanguage@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

They've been owned by City for a long time and even got relegated.

They are really here on their own merit and Michel being a genius coach.

They've hardly spent - they can't really in La Liga

[–] Sente-se@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

We are living in some's Football Manager save

[–] esports_consultant@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

wdym they have dope ass training grounds in manchester

[–] PeterTheRabbit1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Girona is an extremely underappreciated and underhyped team. They're leading La Liga and we're heading into December soon. I don't see nearly enough people and media outlets talking about them.

[–] birdinbrain@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Honestly I’d be so excited to see a new team break into the upper crust in Spain (or anywhere in the world) but just like Leipzig, Newcastle, or City, it’s a bullshit rise fueled by financial injection. The players on Girona are doing a good job, full credit to them, but their rise can hardly be called organic.

Oh well, maybe Rayo can finally push into Europe instead of choking in March this season

[–] sabermagnus@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

They have City Football Club money.

[–] L10NHEART19@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I have friends with a vacation home there. I went to visit them and you can buy tickets to their games super cheap at the receptionist for the gym there, and can even take a stroll by the training grounds. We didn’t play a lick of golf though.

[–] Any-Competition8494@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Girona team's coach/captain is the anime protagonist. They have plot armour in this season to win the league.

[–] ukrainianhab@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

But they do have one Artem Dovbyk.
