I work at a target and if anything, they're actively encouraging theft. We used to have a secure lockup for electronics and they just rebuilt it to be an aisle you can climb into in a minute. Yet they complain there's nothing they can do ๐Ÿคฆ

Having to search a store and wait for someone to open up locks is a pain in the ass and drives away customers.

This. I would much rather wait 2-3 days for an item to be delivered from Amazon or something than spend 5 minutes awkwardly trying to get someone's attention to unlock a stupid case.
