Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

That's so weird. We've tried nothing at all and this shit keeps happening. Huh, so bizarre. I wonder if science will ever figure out what's going on.

It's not nothing; it's that we aren't at the point of actually ending fossil fuel use or deforestation. Until we actually achieve those, things will keep getting hotter.

I blame science. Imagine if they had warned us years and years ago. Imagine all the measures lawmakers could’ve taken. But no, now we’re in this shit.

Big oil will never stop fucking this planet. We will end up like the people in the "book of Eli" movie pretty soon.

Scary and sad. I miss the beautiful coral reefs from when I was a kid. We need much more aggressive climate action and really crack down on the biggest offenders.

looks like hurricane season is going to have to break records

It'll do what it does, and the impact on opinion or policy is limited unless we make it happen. And making it happen doesn't depend on the hurricane season.

okay then.. i'm glad we got that settled.. it certainly will do what it does.. and so forth.. and things will depend on what they will depend upon.. in the fullness of time..

Not really. It's a call to action, rather than a call to wait passively and hope for disaster.
