How I feel about endless Star Trek memes-

Q doesn't provide nachos, he provides cigars.

I don't need your fantasy cigars!

[–] BoiLudens@lemmy.world 22 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I cannot express enough, how much I’ve learned about Star Trek thru memes and coffee

Great, we can qualify Risa as an educational community.

We're not leaking, we're teaching.

We're well on the path to becoming a religion, as is predicted by Futurama.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 years ago

You're not leaking or teaching .... you're leaching

the loss or extraction of certain materials from a carrier into a liquid

... in the case of Risa ... it's the general loss and extraction of the grey matter of my brain via memes and turning my thoughts into an educational gooey liquid

I’m continually positively surprised how many memes here kick off more serious discussion and speculation about the shows. It’s one of the things that sucked me in.

I’m not convinced that I will ever quite have the right sense of humour to have my own original memes take off here, but you guys make me want to stretch beyond my comfort zone.

Education, meaningful debate & self development. Wow.

I say just go for it. I sometimes make a dumb meme and post it thinking "This is probably only funny to me." and then I'm pleasantly surprised. Even when it doesn't land, it's still fun to make.

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

That's definitely been my approach. Much of the time an idea will crop up and I just slap something together. I've learned over time through trial and error. Even then, there are posts that don't "land" and that's ok.

[–] Stamets@startrek.website 9 points 2 years ago

And we love having you around buddy <3

The respectful discussions on here are definitely one of the reasons I stick around.

Just let them fly. Do it.
I've even made some memes here. Nothing amazing, but some people liked them.

If only Paramount would remaster DS9 and VOY like this. Very crisp work.

[–] Stamets@startrek.website 6 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Apparently Voyager is being worked on by someone. They released images of Timeless recently and it looks incredible. It's going to be nice being able to experience that series again with a new level of definition.

That is the group that did the remaster of DS9 (which is amazing). They just finished the 1st season of Voyager.

Pretty much all it shows is instructions on how to download (sftp).

[–] Snowcano@startrek.website 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Are you sure it’s not just for the upcoming Voyager documentary? Kind of like how they did a few select scenes of DS9 for What We Left Behind?

[–] negativenull@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago

Go here: https://discord.gg/meEZfdwb

All of DS9, and season 1 (so far) of Voyager

These memes are the best, you’re doing the lord’s work friend

[–] Stamets@startrek.website 16 points 2 years ago

Risa is my favorite community. It took over the warm and fuzzy spot in my heart that I had for r/lotrmemes.

[–] lugal@lemmy.ml 11 points 2 years ago (1 children)

And the life of future historians who try to understand today's culture by reading your memes

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Nah, all records of the 21st century were erased during the Eugenics Wars.

[–] lugal@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Sure? The eugenic wars happened in the 1990s. Think again

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Not anymore thanks to timeline shenanigans according to SNW.

[–] lugal@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Ok, seriously: DS9 placed it in the 2030s, didn't they? And SNW changed it again?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I don't remember when DS9 placed it. However-

spoilerLa'an meets a child Khan aged maybe 7 or 8 on a trip to 2023 in SNW.

[–] lugal@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago

I was wrong:

In contrast to the Eugenics Wars having previously been established as taking place in the 1990s, "Doctor Bashir, I Presume", set in 2373, references the Eugenics Wars as having occurred two centuries prior to the episode, placing the Wars in the late 22nd century. As Ronald D. Moore later admitted, this statement was a production error, a line he had taken from The Wrath of Khan, but he had accidentally forgotten to account for the episode being set a century later than the film.

No worries, now it is insantly vintage.

[–] Wage_slave@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 years ago

And you're doing a great fucking job of it, too.

Thank you.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

... and millions more after our time ... so much waste ever expanding into the future

... what have you done?

[–] Stamets@startrek.website 22 points 2 years ago

I apologize for nothing

[–] Zink@programming.dev 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I remember seeing a meme like this here before. And here I am commenting again and spending more of my life on it again. :D

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

You mean we could have seen this meme before?

[–] Zink@programming.dev 3 points 2 years ago

It HAS been a long road…

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Gonna make a cleaner version of this in a couple minutes. Love meme but this thing fell into the air fryer accidentally.

I've looked for a cleaner version of this meme with no luck... If you're remaking it from scratch, I may have to steal it. Lol

[–] Stamets@startrek.website 12 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Well I just posted it and it has Lemmings in it. If you want any alterations, the PSD, the source images, font, etc just shoot me a message

[–] WarmSoda@lemm.ee 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

the PTSD, the source images

[–] Stamets@startrek.website 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

You scared the shit out of me for a second. I thought I wrote that.

[–] WarmSoda@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

But would you have changed it if you did? Hmm

[–] howsetheraven@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Oh captain, my captain.
