While living in Barcelona I went to 3 FCB matches. In those 3 matches Messi had 11 goals.

Why Czechoslovakia and Czech Republic, but there is Germany and no West Germany?

Perhaps west germany never won one

[–] TheOncomingBrows@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

All of West Germany is now a part of Germany. The area that constitutes the Czech Republic is only part of what was Czechoslovakia.

[–] Xicu@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

What would be the count if they didn't have that rule in place that only Europeans were allowed to win it?

[–] QuieroLaSeptima@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I would Argue Argentina has 11 as Di Stefano is much more Argentine than Spanish. Also Sivori.

THE INFINITY GOAT.

Lionel Messi now tops the number of Ballon d'Or wins by a country as well

[–] DildoFappings@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Damn. Messi is now the undisputed GOAT. He's got more Ballon d'ors than every other country in the world. Single-handedly put Argentina top of the list from not being on the list. Kinda feels empty now knowing that he's gonna retire soon. Truly the end of an era.

Messi : Bonjour

[–] Top_Eggplant_7156@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Alfredo di Stefano was born in Argentina as well

[–] LOLXDRANDOMFUNNY@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Sivori and Di Stefano were born and made in Argentina too, is stupid to not also add them considering we are talking about best countries producing talent.

[–] ManuMora98@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Spain isn't updated, it's 4 wins, Luis Suárez, Alexia 2 and Aitana

[–] MrRawri@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Argentina has 11 no? Di Stéfano has 3

[–] KidGoku1@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

If you told me 2 decades ago one day a player will end with 8 Balon D'ors I'd call that impossible and mock the person saying that. GOAT and it ain't even close.

Primero Argentina

Segundo Francia

Buenas noches, señores y señoras.

[–] HellRider619@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Figo, Ronaldo and who else for Portugal?

[–] cuentanueva@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Reminder that no player outside of Europe could win before 1995.

Brazil and Argentina would 100% have more wins if that was allowed.

That's not to get into the two Di Stefano won, plus the one from Omar Sivori. Both born and raised in Argentina. Weird they are counted for Spain and Italy when literally today in the ceremony they talked about how Luis Suarez' was Spain's only winner.

[–] Fauberts_Siesta@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah in Spain nobody really considers Di Stefanos wins as ours, only Luis Suárez.

[–] ImpressiveLife3116@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Who are the 5 players for Italy?

I would think cannavaro and baggio are two

Edit: Omar Sivori( he actually Argentinian), Gianni Riviera( the goat) and Paolo Rossi (the lamb).

[–] KingRo48@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Netherlands punching above their weight

[–] RuubGullit@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

And Portugal too

[–] NewmanBickle@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Alfredo Di Stéfano and Omar Sívori are also Argentinian, and it's well known that Spain has only won 1 time with Luis Suárez. So why the hell are they making the list this way?

The spanish Wikipedia has the accurate ranking.

[–] Sgruntlar@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I feel like France will very comfortably top this list in a year or two

[–] Alex95111@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Players: 1

Wins: 8

It's such a cold stat Jesus

[–] BertEnErnie123@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Didn't even know we had 7 in total. I only knew van Basten, Cruyff and Gulllit won it for us, but not the number of times.

Checked the list and found out that in '88 we got the full top 3 even (1-vBasten, 2-Gullit, 3-Rijkaard), all of whom where playing for Milan at the time. Kinda nuts.

[–] dontcarenotbothered@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Funny how many people don’t understand that the nationalities listed are the national team represented by the players at the time they won the award.

It’s like complaining that Riyad Mahrez should be counted as French rather than Algerian or Achraf Hakimi should be counted as Spanish instead of Moroccan.

[–] Slash1909@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hope he returns to Europe one more time on loan to lift another trophy. Preferably not with a state owned club.

[–] DeeOhEf@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

[–] SerpentRain@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

[–] deputydawg420@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

We already had before, Di Stefano was argentinian.
