MATCH EVENTS

1': We're off!

3': SAVE! The ball deflects to McBurnie who's in space! He fires! But Onana makes a comfortable save!

16': Antony takes a shot at goal, not enough power on it, easy save for Foderingham.

17': Antony fires wide by a lot.

21': Onana is down. Medics looking at him. Looks like he's going to stay in for the moment.

24': SAVE! Cameron Archer fires from distance through the legs of Maguire but Onana is alert and keeps it out!

28': GOAL MAN U!! Scott McTominay chests the ball up in the air, somehow adjusts to make the volley, it deflects and takes the keeper flat-footed!

31': PENALTY FOR SHEFFIELD UNITED! McTominay the goal-scorer penalized for handball!

34': GOAL SHEFFIELD UNITED! Oli McBurnie smashes it in off the inside of the post!

37': Luke Thomas pulls down Antony by the shirt

38': Højlund stretches out and can't quite make the tap-in on the cross.

44': Bruno Fernandes takes a free kick and hits the top of the crossbar!

45': Auston Trusty carded for preventing Rashford from taking a quick throw-in

45+3': SAVE! The ball deflects out to Højlund! He fires quickly but Foderingham was also off his line quickly and makes himself big to make the save.

HT Sheffield United 1-1 Manchester United Tied at the break but gotta say, Man U do not look like the better side.

46': We're back!

48': SAVE! Norwood fires on target, Onana just tips it over for a corner.

51': Sheffield United substitution: Rhian Brewster on for Oli McBurnie who comes off gingerly

52': SAVE!! Brewster fires from distance, Onana parries up but it bounces up in the air! McAtee attempts to get the rebound but can't jump high enough. Some check for a foul by Maguire on McAtee but the refs give nothing.

55': Mixup in the back for Sheffield United! Foderingham and Trusty don't link up and Rashford takes the pass, but the shot from Højlund is saved.

58': MISS! Rashford puts it just a hair wide of the far corner!

62': Vinícius Costa slides in late on Antony

63': Man U triple sub: Alejandro Garnacho, Christian Eriksen and Anthony Martial on for Antony, Scott McTominay and Rasmus Højlund

66': Hamer fires a wild shot into the stands.

67': Amrabat fires a thunderbolt and hits the crossbar!! They pick up the rebound but Fernandes puts it wide!

77': GOAL MAN U!! Diogo Dalot fires a speculative effort from distance and it turns out beautifully! Comes right off the keeper's fingertips into the net!

78': Sheffield United substitution: Ben Osborn on for James McAtee

82': Jonny Evans seems to have hurt himself committing a tactical foul

84': Man U substitution: Raphaël Varane on for Jonny Evans

84': Sheffield United substitution: Bénie Traoré on for Gustavo Hamer

87': Foderingham flat-footed again as the shot comes in but Garnacho only ripples the wrong side of the net.

88': Man U substitution: Mason Mount on for Marcus Rashford

90+1': Garnacho puts his shot wide! Offside anyway but that was a bad miss.

FT Sheffield United 1-2 Manchester United Man U with a not entirely convincing but badly needed win!

Also I swear we have been stuck in this exact game for the entire season. If we ever manage to hold on after equalizing I will blow a gasket

[–] D1794@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

First half was a disgrace. Couldn't keep the ball to save our life.

2nd half we dominated but still look so flat and unimaginative in front of goal. Playing Fernandes & McTominay together is the easiest way to constantly lose the ball, hope we never do it again.

What a win! Ten Hag is going to destroy Guardiola next week.

[–] NotAnUncle@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

He'd better. I'm bored of the klopp, de zerbi and guardiola love triangle. Need some spice in there with pep propping up ETH

Maguire played his ass off, deserved MOTM, pleased for the guy.

Extremely wasteful from United in the final 10 minutes. Lacking the fundamentals of football, fucking up 3v2 counterattacks and being offside in almost every attack.

[–] GarfieldDaCat@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

uh oh, Evans has done his hamstring. United looking shaky at the back!

[–] D1794@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Varane came back, we couldn't have too many fit defenders so Evans had to pay the price

[–] NameTakken@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

One convincing performance…that’s all I ask for

If Maguire had started the season, Man United would have more points. Absolutely criminal that Ten Hag persisted with Martinez and then Lindelof over him.

McAtee, Hamer and Archer will be playing in the Premier League next season whatever happens.

[–] dumpystumpy@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Relax mate maguire in this game alone gave sheffield some of their best attacks from balls he gave away.

He deserves to be starting ahead of lindalof but this idea that he is changing any of the losses weve had to wins or draws is just beyond false

[–] Brave-Salamander-339@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Lol just missing a proper LB and United were already struggled, not even a proper counter in last 10'. Imagine if more injuries would come.

[–] tedmaul23@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Not even a proper counter? What?

[–] GameplayerStu@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Ten Hag wants to be the best transition team in the world yet can barely win against Sheffield United. Don’t think he’s gonna make the season.

[–] FIJIBOYFIJI@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Set flairs off at 2-1 up btw

[–] DHillMU7@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The celebration police are back. Imagine being happy the team you’ve travelled to watch are winning. Madness.

[–] ArmiinTamzarian@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The NEW new new new new new new new worst game ever

[–] Cottonshopeburnfoot@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Imagine if we made a midfield substitution before conceding. What a day that would be

[–] Emma-Royds@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Another emphatic, commanding win. What crisis?

[–] NdyNdyNdy@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Well it has to be said that that was certainly one of the football games that took place this weekend.

[–] sunken_grade@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (4 children)

insane that united are only 6 points off city given how truly awful they’ve been this season

[–] dispelthemyth@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I welcome our shithouse win next week

League is a long run man. Let’s see in Jan where do the teams stand. I feel city will still run away with the title

[–] sunken_grade@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

yeah for what it’s worth i don’t think united are gonna be anywhere close to the title lol, it just feels like the team should already be like 15 points behind instead of 6

Tbf it’s kinda hard to build a significant lead after only 9 games.

[–] Weedyoot@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It's only 9 games.

Nothing iNsAnE.

[–] Alive-Ad-4164@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Important win

[–] nshriup19@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

After this horrible start to the season, we are 5 points off top 4 and we are 9 games right now.

We also have a fuck ton of injuries btw.

[–] No_Glove5486@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

like i said on the match thread. Somehow, some way, United are 8th, one point below the european spots. Adding to that the following: Honestly, i get they played 2 of the 3 promoted teams but considering how between injuries and not being good at the game, its honestly crazy they still got THIS close so soon to the european spots. I thought they´d only get this close like around matchday 20-30.

[–] Hatakashi@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Honestly, if we ever relearn how to play football, we're in and around the right place to actually achieve something. Big if though.

[–] No_Glove5486@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

fair enough. Also, unironically but Ten Hag as much stick as he gets unironically is managing to make water flow from stones (that is how the expression goes right) considering Manchester United´s current situation. Like, it would be like if someone managed to get, ie, Everton to european qualification spots what he is doing with you all, a team that doesnt have much to meet ends with, managing to crack the top half of the table or inch slowly closer to it.

[–] adamfrog@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

That couldn't be further from the truth, getting United top 4 is statically easier than everton to Europe. I don't know how people drop the bar so much for this team lol, and a bit reason for the lack of quality is ETH demanding these specific huge money signings

[–] stokesy1999@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Level on points with 5th and playing some of the worst football I've seen in my life with our whole defence crippled, a shaky keeper and a front 3 with 1 goal between them this season. I am confused on how we're here

[–] Hare712@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You only had 2 games against teams you would consider opponents for European spots and you lost both.

Wins against Brentford, Notthingham, Sheffield, Wolves and Burnly and losses against everybody else.

When the shedule gets difficult there will be L's

[–] D1794@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

3 tbh, Brighton, Arsenal, Spurs.

[–] innit122@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Everytime I watch a united match this season, I can't help but feel like they're lucky

[–] DarkStanley@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

They are, they’re so reliant on individual bits of quality, they’re poor. A good side would have beaten them today they’re awful first half.

[–] innit122@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah I wish they had a huge run of games coming up

[–] thecricketnerd@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

That logic goes both ways. We could also be winning a lot more comfortably if it weren't for individual bits of poor quality. I think we had so many opportunities created that led to nothing

Again absolutely dogshit performance against arguably the weakest side in the league.

[–] DougieFFC@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If Sheff Utd could play against the bad teams as well as they play against the good teams (Newcastle aside) they would not be in the bottom three.

[–] DHillMU7@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Bold to call us a good team.

[–] venktesh@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Play like this next Sunday and city gonna shove that ball up the arse of every united player they probably won't be able to walk in final thirds.

[–] AnnieIWillKnow@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

That game was not worth the impact it had on Saturday night traffic on the Sheffield ring road

[–] OversizedDoorKnob@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Thought onana had a good game tbh

[–] atul_simha@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Get ready for the massacre next weekend
