If not Ramsdale, which keeper would likely be England's #1?

[–] Lambchops_Legion@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Roma loan with obligation to buy offer incoming

Said like he was a shoe in for number 1 when he's actually 3rd choice.

Don't see his position as 3rd choice in any grave danger at the moment.

[–] 3threeLions@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (5 children)

Don't worry, Southgate doesn't pick players based on form.

[–] prettyboygangsta@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Yes he does. International form.

[–] plowman_digearth@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Ramsdale has done a perfectly fine job on England's bench. Why replace him?

[–] Bamboozle_@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Pickford... Pick's right in the name!

Just joking not hating on Pickford.

[–] ValleyFloydJam@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

He does though but just not purely on club form.

The chaos people want of just picking the most inform players for every time would be a crappy way to try and knit a team together.

Or minutes played

  • Asked about whether he's concerned about losing his place in the England squad ahead of next summer’s European Championship due to a lack of action at Arsenal, Ramsdale responded:

Yes, of course, it is the first time I have found myself in this situation.

'The manager here [Gareth Southgate] is brilliant, he trusts the players he's worked with before as we've seen in different types of ways - you'll see Kalvin [Phillips] and Harry [Maguire] haven’t played the most amount of minutes but when they step up for England and are given the opportunity, they perform.

But of course, I want to get back into my club team. I want to get into my club team and be able to give the manager a headache rather than just have Jordan [Pickford] as the England number one and me fall by the wayside.’

On his relationship with Raya, the former Bournemouth keeper continued: ‘We work professionally really well together. We push each other in training and there's days where I come in and I'm down because of the situation and he picks me up.

‘And for whatever reason there might be a day where he's down and even though I'm suffering and hurting for not playing I have to stand up and be able to push him and make sure he's ready for the weekend if he’s picked to play.’

Kalvn Phillips performed??

[–] MagicianMoo@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

[–] Completed_2020@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He doesn’t look shaky af

But he looks shaky ah

[–] diaboquepaoamassou@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Pea brained. Shoo

[–] s_dalbiac@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

What about the goals he gifted against Spurs and Lens then?

[–] KDParsenal@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

He flapped against spurs for their first goal as well

[–] PM_ME_YOUR_ARSEnal@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

He really doesn't. He DID in the first half an hour Vs City, but after that he settled. Was also fine in the other games he played other than the Lens game where everyone was a bit shit.

It's interesting how all these 90s goalkeepers through their own egomaniacal lense suggested that having two capable goalkeepers at the club was a recipe for disaster, because earning your spot is reserved for all other players in the game.

So far so good. I don't know if you can keep both at the clubs for years if the pecking order becomes too established, but for this season it definitely seems they both accept it's a dogfight.

There are some suggestions of tactical flexibility as well, but I think they're too similar, although there's probably little differences between them that I don't understand.

[–] Subtleiaint@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

but for this season it definitely seems they both accept it's a dogfight.

That's just believing what you want to be true, it's not a dog fight, there's a clear pecking order. Ramsdale doesn't say in the article he's happy with how things are going, he's just being a professional and towing the party line. I'd be astonished if his agent isn't looking for a new club, the chances of him being at the club next season are incredibly low.

[–] serenity-as-ice@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's been 4 league matches man. Far more likely they assess at the end of the season, when there's a clear pattern. For all we know Ramsdale starts against Chelsea and the narrative swings to 'why did Raya join Arsenal'.

[–] Subtleiaint@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Whilst you're right that it's only been a few games, if Arteta had decided he needed better than Ramsdale, if he had brought a player to replace him and then given that player time to bed in before making him first choice, it would look precisely the same as what has happened.

Of course there's a chance I'm wrong but, barring injury to Raya and dead rubbers at the end of the season, it's quite possible that Ramsdale has played his last premier league game in an Arsenal shirt.

[–] BTECGolfManagement@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He should be absolutely nowhere near the numero uno spot anyways - Sir Jordan Pickford is the best keeper I’ve seen in an England shirt since I’ve been alive IMO

Is “suffering” really the word for this?

[–] christmasinjune201@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Arteta doesn’t seem to care about his players physical or mental health. He over works them, makes them play through injuries, and then he treats them like this.

going enjoy his downfall.

[–] etheryx@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

terrible bait, go work on it

[–] ikeoni@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

yeah he absolutely hates martinelli and saliba

[–] Ukis4boys@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Bro can't even displace Pickford. A scrub that almost got Everton relegated twice.

[–] StickYaInTheRizzla@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Cuz he’s the best keeper for England in decades

[–] Hazeringx@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Saying that Pickford almost got us relegated only serves to show ignorant you are, no offence. Pickford is one of biggest reasons why we haven't been relegated yet, literally.

[–] Fellasisitgaytolive@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Don’t get what’s so bad about ramsdale seems like he’s had it rough

[–] BIG_FICK_ENERGY@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This feels very editorialized to manufacture drama where there is none.

On the England situation:

‘The manager here is brilliant, he trusts the players he's worked with before as we've seen in different types of ways - you'll see Kalvin and Harry haven’t played the most amount of minutes but when they step up for England and are given the opportunity, they perform.

So if if that's the case for myself and I do get shown that trust to play another game if I haven't played for my club then I will have to repay him.

‘But of course, I want to get back into my club team. I want to get into my club team and be able to give the manager a headache rather than just have Jordan [Pickford] as the England number one and me fall by the wayside.’

That doesn’t sound like fearing for his place in the England squad, it’s more like he wants to push Pickford and himself to be their best and make the decision tough on Southgate because he has two good options.

And on his “suffering” at Arsenal:

‘We work professionally really well together.

He is clearly saying in both situations that he wants to challenge for more time, but is also picking up and pushing his competition to be at their best. Interpreting that as “breaking his silence on the ‘suffering’ he has endured” is clickbait.

Well that's the Daily Mail for you.

[–] Gorz_EOD@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I love how footballers lose perspective.

Not long ago, Ramsdale was getting relegated year in and year in. Now earning millions at a top club and with a chance at a starting role.

I'm sure Raya would have the same concerns about his place in the Spain squad should he be benched.

Such is life. Try enjoy it.

[–] JRM_Elephant@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Strange take.

You don’t get to the professional level with a ‘such is life’ attitude. These people have been top performers their whole lives

If you’re a determined person, it’s very hard to accept a step back once you’ve made career progress and you only get to his level if you’re a determined person.

[–] ocbrook86@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Hasn't it been a month since he lost his place?

[–] fall3nmartyr@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

🤷🏽‍♂️

[–] RustyLugs@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Mokbel and the daily fail know what they're doing. Creating a bit of a headline to get those sweet clicks.

[–] vulturevan@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I can tell without clicking that this is going to be editorialised as fuck as usual from the DM. I remember when Pickford was hounded even though he never said what's in this headline following that Anfield goal

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-6140863/I-wont-blunder-like-Alisson-Pickford-vows-not-risks-like-Liverpool-goalkeeper.html

[–] 1PSW1CH@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Oh no, maybe he’ll be 4th choice instead of 3rd

[–] Zalesye@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Not bothered.

[–] prettybunbun@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I’d be shocked if he doesn’t go in January or at the latest Summer. There’s no way someone as good as him (even if Raya is/isn’t better) will or should rot on the bench.

What clubs need keepers atm? I can see us maybe going for him if Neuer’s comeback doesn’t work, Real or are they planning Kepa if Courtois can’t come back? Can’t think of another top club that need a new Keeper tbh?

The answer is to put your head down and improve yourself as much as you can, not complain to the media

[–] No_Bullfrog1926@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Feel bad for Rambo.

[–] Thoodmen@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The whole thing is stupid because Arteta has not been honest about the situation.

[–] everyonesmellmymeat@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I just keep imagining the first time Arteta and Raya started speaking Spanish to each other in front of Aaron. Poor kid didn't deserve to be dropped.
